[Album] Stand (Deluxe) – Newsboys
The Christian music group, Newsboys, is releasing a deluxe edition of their album, STAND today (September 23, 2022). In this edition, the beloved group serves up three new recordings, elevating the album to a full 14 tracks. “King of Kings,” which features MercyMe frontman Bart Millard, adds a moment of praise and adoration to the collection.
Lead singer, Michael Tait, who co-penned all ten songs on the original release, has added two more originals here on the extended release, “Jesus Did,” and “All Things Are Possible”. Additionally, STAND (Deluxe) includes an acoustic version of “I Still Believe You’re Good” and a fresh take on the title-cut that features Tait’s former dcTalk bandmate, TobyMac.

Current band members Michael Tait, Duncan Phillips, Jeff Frankenstein, and Jody Davis, began to assemble the album in 2020, with the intention of leaving no doubt as to who they are and what they believe. The result is STAND, one of the most thoughtfully-crafted releases of their career and a project that marks the band’s return to their original label home, Capitol CMG.
Written, recorded, and released during the extended time spent at home in 2020, Newsboys sought to craft a record that was the antithesis of one of the most confusing seasons of their careers. While STAND is their response to the questions raised over the past few years, melodically, it’s filled with bright sonic textures and arena-ready anthems—poised for their live shows. The group recently announced their “Stand Together Tour” with special guests Cochren & Co., Adam Agee, and Jeremy Rosado. Set to kick off October 6th in Champaign, IL, the tour will also make stops in Missouri, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas throughout the fall. Recently, the music video for their single, “Magnetic”, was nominated for a Dove Award.
Anne Wilson Shares Three New Versions Of “Hey Girl”
Following the release of her acclaimed #1 debut album My Jesus, Christian-country artist Anne Wilson has released a string of new versions of her latest hit, “Hey Girl.” A clear fan favorite for its catchy chorus and empowering message, the song has racked up more than 6.8 million views on TikTok and 1.2 million streams on Spotify alone. The overwhelming support of the feel-good track, which impacted Christian radio on September 16, prompted the release of a multi-track Single experience, available today, Friday, September 23.
“This song ‘Hey Girl’ is an anthem for all women. It’s a reminder that we’re made in the image of God and that our identity is in Him. I’m so excited to be releasing this multitrack single with 4 different versions of ‘Hey Girl’ on it,” Anne Wilson shared. “I got to explore my artistry through this and create versions that were each very special to me. I pray this song reminds you that you’re a blood bought, battle fought, made NEW child of The King.”
Including a radio edit, live version and a new “Kentucky Version” which offers an acoustic, bluegrass-inspired feel, “Hey Girl” proves to be a hit in more ways than one. Each version offers fans a different side to Anne’s impressive range not only vocally but also as a multi-dimensional artist. The multi-track release follows the launch of the official music video which enjoyed an exclusive premiere with Facebook and has quickly garnered over 6 million views on the platform. The video, which was directed by Alexa Campbell (Carly Pearce, Ashley McBryde, Gabby Barrett, Florida Georgia Line), is also being serviced to CMT, giving Anne an additional platform to continue to spread her message of positivity and self-love.
The Kentucky native has experienced a multitude of blessings over the past few years. Her debut album My Jesus hit the No. 1 spot on multiple charts including Billboard’s Top Christian & Gospel Albums and Billboard’s Top 200 Christian & Gospel. The album also made CCMG history, scoring the biggest debut week in over 15 years by a Capitol Christian Music Group-signed new artist. The title track earned Anne her first RIAA Gold Certification, a 2022 Billboard Music Award nomination for “Top Christian Song” and won ASCAP’s “Song Of The Year.” She’s gone to perform multiple times at the Grand Ole Opry and has a consistent touring schedule with some of the top names in music.
Closing out the year, Anne began her nationwide stint on Casting Crowns’ The Healer tour this week running through December and she will release her first book “My Jesus: From Heartache to Hope” on October 25. Anne’s heart-on-her-sleeve personality and passion for Jesus have allowed the talented singer-songwriter to connect with the masses. With more new music on the horizon and exciting projects in the works, Anne continues to prove this is just the start of a lasting and impactful career.

South African Tok Tok Sensation Makes Debut With “The Prayer”
South Africa’s biggest Tik-Tok singing sensation, Whitney April, has signed a worldwide deal with the team that manages GRAMMY® winner, PJ Morton. The Cape Town/Bothasig native’s ever-growing Tik-Tok fan base of 100K followers caught their attention and now, she’s released an awe-inspiring version of the classic song, The Prayer: https://music.empi.re/theprayer
Only 25 years old, Whitney April has been making a name for herself in the TikTok metaverse where she’s garnered a million likes for her acapella renditions of songs such as “Part of Your World” from the Disney animated film “The Little Mermaid,” and Adele’s “Easy on Me.”
With her debut release, April is now expanding beyond the world of TikTokers with her awe-inspiring rendition of “The Prayer” that features Rodrick Dixon of the Three Mo’ Tenors classical trio. She first heard the original 1998 David Foster-produced Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli version when she was a child, but really fell in love with the 2003 remake by gospel legends Donnie McClurkin and Yolanda Adams. It’s fitting that Adams’ music director, Rodney East, was recruited to produce the charming new orchestration.
East, who has also collaborated with the likes of Jay-Z and Whitney Houston, creates a majestic musical backdrop that is as big and alluring as the original Quest for Camelot motion-picture soundtrack versions. The recording was an international event. East was at his Chicago, IL studio watching April sing her parts on Zoom from her brother’s recording studio in Cape Town. On another day, Dixon laid his vocals in Chicago. Then, GRAMMY® Award winning engineer James Auwarter, who worked on both Kanye West’s breakthrough Late Registration project and Rihanna’s “A Girl Like Me,” mixed and mastered the track from his London, England studio.
When asked what makes “The Prayer” so poignant after twenty-five years, April offers a simple reply. “Honestly, it’s the feeling of the song,” she says. “It’s so sincere.”
As a child, she amused herself by singing songs from the “Barney & Friends” children’s program or Sunday school and a lot of Fifth Harmony tracks, but never dreamed of a career as a vocalist. She earned a degree from Varsity College and began teaching English, Afrikaans, and other subjects to elementary school children.
Along the way, Wade Jordan (manager for R&B artist / Maroon 5 keyboardist PJ Morton), came across some of April’s Tik-Tok videos and was impressed. “He asked if I might be interested in making a recording,” she recalls. “Making the videos was just fun for me. I didn’t think of doing music full time. I always dreamed, but I never thought it would happen.”
The dream is now reality as some of the most accomplished behind-the-scenes people in music gather to re-introduce “The Prayer” through this brilliant new take. “Whitney’s voice is simply angelic on this rendition,” says James Auwarter who engineered recordings by some of the greats of this generation. “I just started work on the Dolby Atmos mix version, and this will bring the song to life even more!” However, Whitney April remains low-key and humble about everything that’s happening to her. “I believe that God put me in this place where people who feel like there’s no hope can be encouraged through my voice,” she says. “I’m just a vessel.”
