This last song is the heartbeat of the whole record.
When I first started recording, the album looked completely different. A few days in, my little brother suddenly passed away and everything stopped.
Over the following year, through a lot of heartbreak and doubt, I started writing again.
These weren’t songs I just wanted to write. They were songs I truly needed to write.
Because of that, I went all in on the recording side. @joeyliechty (our amazing producer) and I logged over 140 days in the studio across fifteen months. It was the hardest and most rewarding creative process I’ve ever been a part of.
For me, This Is Not The End is not only my favorite Gray Havens album, it’s also the most important.
I honestly don’t know when I’ll be ready to make the next one. They say art should reflect life, and I think I need to live a little more before I start writing again.
