Matthew West Honored This Week By NSAI & ASCAP; Announces New Album

Matthew West celebrated a milestone couple of days with back-to-back honors from NSAI and ASCAP. Tuesday night (9/20), West was honored with the coveted Songwriter-Artist of the Year Award, following previous winners including Luke Combs, Luke Bryan, and Taylor Swift. Bart Herbison, Executive Director of the NSAI, presented him with the award on the historic Ryman Auditorium stage applauding his accomplishments.

West is notably the first predominantly Christian artist to win the award in over 20 years. Showcasing his latest number one hit, the honoree opened the ceremony to perform a duet version of “Me On Your Mind” with Anne Wilson.

The excitement didn’t stop there – the following night (9/21), the genre hitmaker received seven ASCAP Christian Music Awards, including Songwriter of the Year, Song of the Year for his work on Wilson’s breakout smash “My Jesus,” and recognized for his five most performed cuts: “Look What You’ve Done,” by Tasha Layton, “My Jesus” by Anne Wilson, “Scars in Heaven” by Casting Crowns, “Weary Traveler” by Jordan St Cyr and his own track “What If.” The ceremony, which was held virtually, celebrated the writers and publishers of the most performed Christian songs of the past year. Today, West announces his upcoming double album MY STORY YOUR GLORY is set for release February 17, 2023. Physical copies are available for pre-order tomorrow HERE. Earlier this month, he released the title track and accompanying music video – watch HERE. The new anthem and project as a whole embodies the countless stories fans have shared with the songwriter over the years and the importance of keeping God at the forefront.

“What an honor to receive this award from NSAI! I was humbled to be standing on stage at the Ryman Auditorium being recognized in front of a room full of the best songwriters in the world. I was told this was only the 2nd time in 50 years that my award went to a Christian artist. I am so proud to represent the genre Christian music at this year’s awards.”

“Thank you ASCAP for being such a great partner throughout my career and thank you for these awards! Although I wear many hats, I have always considered myself a songwriter first and foremost. So to receive this recognition among my peers means so much to me. I’ve had the privilege of making my own records as well as writing with some incredible artists over the years. I’m thankful to all of these artists for allowing me to be creative with them! Special thanks to Anne Wilson and Jeff Pardo, my co-writers on the song of the year, ‘My Jesus’. What a ride this has been! Thanks to God for these amazing blessings!”

– Matthew West

The five-time Grammy nominated artist has had a monumental year: his current single “Me On Your Mind” is his most recent number one song, spending 6 weeks atop the Mediabase Christian Airplay chart and gracing the top the Billboard Christian Airplay Chart for 5 weeks. It marks West’s 25th number one song combined as an artist and songwriter. The track is also his fifth consecutive chartopper. Earlier this month, he released his sixth book “The God Who Stays.” The new book is an engaging and thoughtful exploration, balanced with West’s trademark wit and humor, that helps us reconnect to the Biblical truth that God is with us. In his most personal book to date, West was inspired by the dramatic events of 2020 to go on a spiritual journey of rediscovery and revival inspired by the words of his hit song “The God Who Stays.”

West is also among the top nominee earners for the GMA Dove Awards with a total of seven – including Songwriter of the Year. The awards will take place in Nashville, TN on October 18. Additionally, fans can hear him on “The Matthew West Podcast” which has surpassed an impressive 2.5 million downloads and drops new episodes weekly under the “That Sounds Fun” network. The proven storyteller is set to hit the road for the AN EVENING AT THE STORY HOUSE WITH MATTHEW WEST tour which kicks off on November 3. Following the tour, West will return to Franklin, TN for his Come Home for Christmas weekend December 2-4. For dates and ticket information visit matthewwest.com/tour.

Mike Donehey To Release New Book ‘Grace In The Gray’ January 2023

Songwriter, performing artist, author, and podcaster Mike Donehey is set to release his second book, Grace in the Gray, early next year. Pre-order for the book is available now ahead of its January 17, 2023 release. Donehey shares about the heart behind his new project below.

Grace in the Gray.

It started with a single comment.

“Mike, I can’t believe the way you disagree with people. It isn’t teeming with anger like I’ve come to expect. Your discourse is brimming with compassion and curiosity. I think I’m learning how to argue by watching you.”

Alright. Maybe it wasn’t those exact words. But it was definitely something close to it.

Funny, because I never would have considered myself a gracious debater. I know I didn’t used to be anyway. I used to have to win. All the time, and at all costs.

But perhaps mercy really is beginning to have its way in me, because over the last few years I’ve begun to wonder which is more important. Is it my position? Or is it my posture? Maybe it’s both. Maybe love without truth isn’t love, and truth without love isn’t truth. Maybe disagreement isn’t the sign that something is wrong with my relationships, maybe it’s the evidence that I actually have relationships in the first place. If everyone in my life agrees with me about everything all the time, maybe that’s just a sign that I’ve only really been in a relationship with myself.

mikewithgraceinthegray

Maybe disagreement doesn’t have to be filled with anger, but could be fueled by love.

Honestly, I didn’t think I’d write another book this quickly, but the pandemic changed a lot for everyone didn’t it? For me, it changed my approach. I quickly realized, pecking away my opinions behind the shield of a screen and a block button, I might have been helping myself feel superior, but I wasn’t helping others feel loved. Now, I’m not saying it’s all about feelings, but I wrote this book, because I began to realize how curiosity and kindness have done more to change my heart than a thousand contentious debates ever could. And maybe that’s also true for how we change the world.

Maybe.
Maybe there really is a more loving way.
Maybe.
Come and see.

My new book,
“Grace in the Gray”
A More Loving Way to Disagree
is finished and ready for pre-order.
January 17, 2023
It can’t come soon enough.

Tasha Layton Celebrates Second Consecutive #1 With “How Far”

Acclaimed BEC Recordings artist Tasha Layton is celebrating her second consecutive #1 radio single with “How Far.” Penned by Layton, Keith Everette Smith, Matthew West and AJ Pruis, the powerful ballad currently holds the top position on the Mediabase Christian Audience chart, where it has remained for two consecutive weeks. In addition, “How Far” held the #1 position on Billboard’s Christian AC Indicator chart for the week of September 12.

“How Far” follows Layton’s 2021 chart-topper, “Look What You’ve Done,” which reached #1 on Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart. Both songs are featured on the artist’s debut recording, How Far, released in May, and produced by GRAMMY and Dove Award-winner Keith Everette Smith.

unnamed 2 1

“I have been hearing from so many people who have been touched by the message of ‘How Far,’” said Layton. “They share about how the song has motivated them to reach out to or pray for someone who is running far from ‘home.’ They talk about daughters and sons, or even their own journeys of running from God, only to be reminded that God is pursuing them—that no one can escape God’s love. Others mention how the song helps them know they can make it when they’re struggling because God loves them and will be with them always. I am overwhelmed with gratitude at the way God is using ‘How Far’ to reach hearts and motivate people to show God’s love to those around them.”

This summer, Layton debuted on the iconic Grand Ole Opry, and was featured on the K-LOVE On Demand original series Empty Stage with Andrew Greer. She will be appearing on Danny Gokey’s “Jesus People” Tour, along with special guest Jordan Feliz. Kicking off September 22 in Vienna, Virginia, the tour is slated to stop in 27 cities across the country.

Phil Wickham Announces Nationwide Singalong Tour

Renowned worship leader Phil Wickham and Transparent Productions announce his nationwide 2023 Singalong Tour featuring special guests Matt Maher and Leeland Mooring. The 21-city tour will be sponsored by Compassion International. Tickets are on sale now – click here to purchase.

This will be the fourth year that Wickham takes the Singalong Tour out on the road, and this year represents the largest Singalong tour yet with more dates spanning coast-to-coast. As a fan-favorite tour each year, the Fall 2021 tour sold-out 75 percent in advance of the show date. In continuing the momentum, the 2023 tour date for Leesburg, VA sold-out during the pre-sale weekend with other dates selling more than 50 percent of the tickets prior to the public sale.

“I am so excited to announce that Matt Maher and Leeland Mooring will be joining me next year on the 2023 Singalong Tour,” shares Phil Wickham. “ It has been 13 years since we did a tour together, and it will be amazing to get back on the road with these incredible worship leaders and friends!”

The format of this tour is unlike any other, with all three artists on stage for solo and collaborative performances throughout the evening.

Wickham continues, “The idea behind these nights is to simplify and get back to the root of what we’re doing – a family gathering simply to celebrate and share the name of Jesus. It’s about all of us being together.”

singalongtour2023

The Singalong 2023 tour comes off the heels of Wickham’s wildly successful 2022 nationwide Hymn of Heaven tour, which featured 28 (of 32) sold-out dates across the country. His newest album release, Hymn of Heaven, has seen multiple No. 1 hits with “Battle Belongs” and “House of the Lord,” and his latest radio single “Hymn of Heaven” topped the chart at No. 1 and is still currently holding a Top 10 spot. Hymn of Heaven is his eighth studio album, and it has already amassed more than 415 million streams and more than 150 million video views since its release in 2021.

“It’s been thirteen years since the first time Phil Wickham and I have played live music together, and between then and now, I’ve appreciated his friendship and ongoing commitment to the church,” states Matt Maher. “I’m honored to be a part of Singalong next spring (representing mere mortals a baritone). Phil and Leeland are incredibly gifted and I’m honored to be gathering people together to sing and pray in these cities!”

Additionally Leeland Mooring shares, “We’re getting the band back together! When Phil called me and asked me to be a part of this tour with him and Matt I was ALL IN! Both of these guys have tremendously impacted my walk with Jesus through their songs and their friendship. As songwriters, all three of us know the value of atmosphere that some places have already embedded in them, in the walls, songs. Songs that haven’t yet been sung and life-changing moments in the air. We’re believing that when we gather with expectation and the sound of our voices in worship to God that Heaven will kiss the earth and we’ll never be the same! Wanna come and join us?”

Don’t miss these three incredible worship leaders for this one-of-a-kind tour experience. See below for the complete list of the Singalong 2023 Tour dates for a city near you.
