A Journey of Emotional Recovery: HeIsTheArtist’s Soulful Reimagining of “Out My Mind, Just in Time”

HeIsTheArtist’s latest single, “Out My Mind, Just in Time,” from his upcoming EP “Confessions of a Fallen Angel,” is a deeply emotive exploration of recovery and self-awareness. The track, an alternative cover of Erykah Badu’s original, reimagines the soulful essence of the song through a raw and introspective lens. The lyrics speak to the struggle of breaking free from toxic cycles, be they romantic or addictive in nature, and HeIsTheArtist masterfully connects the narrative to the final stage of addiction recovery—”Maintenance.”

The production is minimalist yet effective, allowing the emotion in the lyrics to take center stage. The vocal delivery is vulnerable and heartfelt, capturing the pain and perseverance of someone emerging from the shadows of their past. The rhythmic shifts in the song mirror the emotional turbulence of recovery, creating a journey-like experience for listeners.

Musically, the track blends elements of alternative soul with hints of jazz and gospel, paying homage to its roots while carving out its own identity. The arrangement is thoughtful, with each note and pause feeling purposeful. There’s a cathartic quality to the chorus, particularly in lines like “I’d lie for you, I’d cry for you,” which convey the complex emotions tied to love and addiction.

Overall, “Out My Mind, Just in Time” is a powerful testament to growth, resilience, and the ongoing process of healing. It’s a song that resonates on a deeply human level, making it a standout track in HeIsTheArtist’s evolving catalog.

[Music Review] God Is On My Mind – HeIsTheArtist

The smooth elegance of HeIsTheArtist is back with his latest single, God Is On My Mind. This suave and sophisticated offering is a soulful reproach to a testament of devotion to one’s religion and the way the messages play on our daily lives and the decisions we make. Deep down this is a track about patience.

Using this archetype coupled with religious imagery HeIsTheArtist is able to produce a down-tempo smooth song that challenges his listener yet entertains at the same time. “God is on his way, They tried to get paid on it, Tried to make a way on it, Woosah, Tried to make a buck off me, Tried to make it off of me.” It is this colorful imagery coupled with the intense metaphor that allows this performer to reach a vast audience, regardless of the connotations involved. Listeners should pay extra special attention to the steady pulsing groove that plays out so delicately in the background, that deep vibe is slightly syncopated from the main melody giving this essential gospel song a jazzy feel. Ultimately the preacher delivers his message in the long run, a culmination of thought and process, as God Is On My Mind reaches its crescendo; “But God took those chains off me, Because God is on my mind, Each and every day, God is on his way.”

With its moderate pacing and repetitive alliterations of the “Woosah”, audiences are hypnotized by the power of the song and sonic parallels to deliver a greater message. The production on God Is On My Mind is meticulous and precise, as all the subtle samples incorporated throughout this piece are clearly defined within their own frequency range, yet blended in a way to complement each other. The main vibe of the track allows the melody to play over the rhythm leaving the groove as its own life force.

For a track of religious implications relying on faith as the primary thematic approach, this method of breathing life into a groove is highly professional and very adept for an artist to pull off. God Is On My Mind may be limiting itself to Gospel and Christian radio formats only due to its subject matter yet I feel this track would be well served on Jazz, and Easy Listening formats as well. Sometimes we need to hear a message but not have it screamed at us to the point of it becoming noise, HeIsTheArtist has managed to deliver a powerful message of faith in a way that soothes and calms us while completely entertaining the audience.

Heistheartist – Parted Waves Review

Musicians are often eccentric, stewing in their own ideas and creativity to make music straight from their souls. It certainly helps one stand out when you infuse every song with your own unique personality. Case In point, Heistheartist, a gospel singer who’s always been making some of the most interesting music for a while now. His latest single, “Parted Waves” has just released, so let’s take a closer look.

For those not in the know, Heistheartist’s signature style is all about downtempo music paired with the artist’s unique nasally singing and gut-wrenching songwriting that’s straight to the point but emotionally potent and interesting. He pairs this with fascinating writing to make music that’s equal parts interesting and unique.

“Parted Waves” follows this format for a short emotional burst that is as satisfying as it is mystifying. As the singer bellows about his emotions in his signature style. It opens with him retelling the title of the song, and telling the listener to let God into their lives, which is, as we said, interesting. From there, he begins to unwind into his usual style, though there’s a musical difference this time.

While Heistheartist’s nasally voice is on full display for “Parted Waves,” it’s paired with a softer, more melodic choir this time around. While it’s a fascinating juxtaposition, we also find it fun! On top of that, the instrumentals are also upbeat this time around, a stark contrast to the artist’ typically more moody style of music. It’s a clever change up, and we appreciate the fresh take.

Of course, it’s still a Heistheartist song through and through, and you can tell this as soon as his voice comes through. It’s a very passionate style of singing, with a unique emphasis on being as emotional and gut wrenching as possible. This is usually paired with sparse melodies, but here we get a really fun upbeat track that somehow elevates his vocal performance a fair bit.

“Parted Waves,” is also a well mixed single, one of Heistheartist’s best-mixed songs so far in fact. The usual cold veneer is replaced with a warmer tone to match the music, and every instrument and voice is clear and separated nicely. Every element works in tandem to make the single work, and we’re glad to see it.

Overall, “Parted Waves,” is a great little track if you want to experience something different. While it carries some aspects of trap and gospel music, it’s otherwise completely original, and not something you’d find anywhere else. We recommend giving it a listen!
