Co-written with Scott’s longtime music business mentor and friend, Grammy- and Dove Award-winning songwriter Randy Thomas (“Butterfly Kisses,” Sweet Comfort Band, The Allies), along with Benjamin Bauman, “Broken Pieces” explores one of faith’s most difficult questions: Can God truly restore what has been shattered by disappointment, fear, and life’s unexpected wounds?
Built around honest lyrics and a soaring chorus, the song reflects the tension between believing God can save us for eternity while struggling to trust Him with today’s burdens.
“I have no problem believing that God is capable of saving my soul,” Riggan shares. “But I have sometimes questioned if He can be trusted to supply my needs and help me through when things get tough.”
That vulnerable confession finds its answer in one of the song’s most poignant moments:
“Help me to know / If I trust You with my soul / I can trust You with my heart…”
Rather than offering easy answers, “Broken Pieces” acknowledges the reality of pain while pointing listeners toward the hope found in God’s restoring work. It is a reminder that the Good Shepherd still gathers what has been broken, smooths the jagged edges, and brings healing where it once seemed impossible.
Produced by Jason Collum and Scott Riggan, the single showcases Riggan’s signature blend of thoughtful songwriting, heartfelt worship, and cinematic Christian pop, inviting listeners into a journey of restoration and renewed trust.
“Broken Pieces” follows a season of renewed creative focus for Riggan as he prepares to release Shepherds and Wolves, his most intentional project to date. The album, coming August 28, explores themes of spiritual resilience, discernment, church hurt, mercy, and the relentless love of the Good Shepherd, offering songs that meet listeners in seasons of doubt while leading them toward hope.
Recently signing with NRT Music, Riggan enters this new chapter with growing momentum. His career has taken him across four continents and includes a No. 1 Christian radio single, multiple Top 20 songs, recognition from the Dove Awards, and honors from the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
While serving as a worship pastor in Idaho, he continues writing songs for what he calls the “road-weary and soul-hungry”–people searching for a faith strong enough to withstand life’s hardest moments.
