[Review] Taydem Shoesmith “Are You Clapping?”
Journeying for modeling, and acting in Pop music Taydem Shoesmith releases her debut single “Are You Clapping? “.This steady, pulsing beat song coupled with the expressive vocals gives Are You Clapping? It’s pop sensibilities while relying on RnB, a little Hip Hop, and a lot of Dance.
It is these elements that are contrasted against the uplifting lyrics that make this song so very enjoyable. It is the expressive manner in which Taydem Shoesmith delivers her vocals that pulls
audiences in.
The underlying feeling that Taydem is having fun with this project, brings a smile to my face while I listen to these uplifting metaphors of overcoming sadness and despair.
Because it is featured over a steady dance beat with a repetitive rhythm, listeners are able to catch the groove with ease and follow along with this pop hit. Although this alludes to the singular nature of the track, it is not meant to be life-changing in any way, but rather a fun summertime jam that can be enjoyed with friends and family.
Of course, Are You Clapping? has other thematic elements which should not be ignored, primarily about fitting in and gaining acceptance from your peers by not standing out. These themes help push the melody further to the end result of feeling good and being comfortable with yourself.
The production value on Are You Clapping? is well-done. Sure, this is an indie release, and a debut one at that so we can afford quite a bit of room for any shortcomings of the mix. I would have liked that bottom end to kick more driving the funk into a club-dance environment.
However, the mix we got although more slanted on the high end is functional for other purposes. Are You Clapping?, therefore becomes an excellent match for Pop, Dance, and Urban commercial radio formats, and one Taydem Shoesmith should be quite proud of.
The infectious groove coupled with the highly capable singing allows the simple melodies to connect with audiences looking for escape and a good time. A delightful track, and one that grows anticipation of what is to come from this young artist.
