[Album] Sarah Kroger Releases ‘A New Reality’

The anticipated album from Sarah KrogerA New Reality (Integrity Music), is out now. Featuring ten honest songs beautifully showcasing her musical talents, including the early single releases of “No Filter” and “Still Yours,” A New Reality is deeply personal, vulnerable, and introspective, basking in awe at God’s mystery and wonder while wrestling with big questions.

It is through her new songs that Kroger reaches the silent struggles, the closet doubters, and anyone who has felt alone in their spiritual battles. She shares, “I hope that through listening to A New Reality, people feel encouraged to bring their imperfect, questioning, doubting selves to God. I want people to be reminded of the beauty of His presence in the world. He’s more real than we can comprehend.”

It is also Kroger’s hope to ignite the need for conversation around faith and doubt within the Church. It is her mission to assure the listeners that their doubts do not disqualify them from pursuing closeness with God, that it’s ok to question, to doubt, to pull on the string, and enable the unraveling to happen, knowing there is One who is gently mending the tangled threads back together into a beautiful, reconstructed tapestry.

With A New Reality, Sarah Kroger is at her most vulnerable while standing firm in her belief. The result is a lush, prayerful, and ultimately uplifting collection of songs for anyone who’s ever felt less than perfect. She is sharing more in-depth stories about her new songs with outlets such as Catholic Faith Network’s CFN Live, Worship Leader, and on an upcoming episode of the Jesus Calling Podcast, among others.

Jordan St. Cyr Releases “My Foundation”

Today (May 10), Manitoba native, 2023 Juno Award recipient in an Album of the Year category, and 16-time GMA Covenant Award winner Jordan St. Cyr releases “My Foundation.” This is the title track for St. Cyr’s upcoming project due next month (Jun 14) in full.

My Foundation isn’t just the title of an album or a song though, it’s a revelation of St. Cyr’s way of life. “This album comes on the heels of a challenging season centered around my daughter Emery’s health,” says the 41-year-old husband to Heather and father of four: Aidan (13), Liam (11), Willa (9) and Emery (5).

“As a family we had to root down and lean into faith – our foundation,” he continues. “Emery was diagnosed with Sturge-Weber Syndrome at birth (Nov. 2018) which developed into regular seizures as she continued to grow. When she was 4 years old, we moved to Nashville and connected with excellent doctors at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, and our now-5-year-old baby girl has been seizure-free for over a year.”

A construction worker by trade, St. Cyr expressed his family’s journey of gratitude and faith through song, with the Biblical parable of the wise and foolish builders (found in Matthew) at the core of the album. “The fact my faith parallels my also being a builder; the song and album title were obvious choices.

Thinking back now, I recall my wife and I staying up night after night for weeks praying for Emery; I now rejoice for all the gifts He gave us through the process. This record is quite literally a statement of faith declaring not ‘what,’ but ‘Who’ my and my family’s lives are built upon.”

[Album Review] When Therapy Fails – Pam Ross

Pam Ross’s debut album, “When Therapy Fails,” is a stirring journey through the landscapes of rock, Americana, and country, weaving together a tapestry of raw emotion and musical prowess. Released after an impressive series of singles that stormed the international iTunes charts, this album solidifies Ross as a significant new voice in the genre.

The album kicks off with “Fire In the Hole,” a rousing track that sets a high energy tone with its gritty guitar riffs and Ross’s dynamic vocal delivery. It’s a song that promises an album not just of musical
exploration but of deep emotional resonance. Following this, “My Kinda Ride” and “No One Around” continue to build on the album’s thematic core of personal struggle and self-discovery, with the former track showcasing Ross’s ability to blend upbeat rhythms with somber lyrical content.

One of the album’s highlights, “Falling off the Merry Go Round,” encapsulates the essence of the album’s title. Here, Ross delves into more introspective territory, reflecting on cycles of hope and disillusionment, supported by a melodic, lingering guitar that complements her soulful voice perfectly.

It was a song written in response to the Nashville school shootings of last year.  “Two Shots of Tequila” shifts the mood, offering a more lighthearted take on dealing with life’s lows through its catchy chorus and vibrant instrumentation.

“You Don’t Know My Name” and “Cornflakes and Beer” stand out for their storytelling prowess, painting vivid pictures of life’s often overlooked moments. The former is particularly compelling, weaving a narrative of anonymity and longing within the bustling world, while the latter uses humor and an unconventional pairing of everyday items to touch on themes of unconventional comfort.

“Better Than a Good Thing,” the album’s chart-topping single, is an anthem of triumphant love and resilience. It’s easy to see why this song resonated with so many, with its infectious chorus and the genuine warmth in Ross’s voice, making it a staple track that will likely be remembered as one of her signature songs.

The album closes with “In Your Smile,” a tender, heartfelt ballad that beautifully showcases Ross’s ability to convey deep emotional truths, wrapping up the album on a note of hopeful melancholy.

Overall, “When Therapy Fails” is a robust debut that offers a blend of energetic tracks and reflective ballads, all tied together by Ross’s powerful vocal delivery and sharp songwriting. This album not only
captures the essence of Pam Ross’s unique musical style but also makes a strong statement about her potential longevity in the music industry.

For fans of heartfelt narratives and rich, genre-blending music, “When Therapy Fails” is a must-listen. For a cult classic album recommendation, dive into “Southeastern” by Jason Isbell. This album is a profound exploration of personal demons and redemption, crafted with stunning lyrical honesty and beautiful musicianship, much like the themes in Pam Ross’s work.
