On March 27, 2023, our entire Nashville community was shaken to its core. The Covenant School and Covenant Presbyterian experienced unimaginable tragedy. In the midst of this tragedy, our amazing city has come together in unprecedented ways to love on and walk closely with those who are devastated in the wake of the 6 beautiful lives lost. Nashville has linked arm in arm to help the children and families who will be affected by their experience for a lifetime.
In my experience as a long-time Nashville session singer, I know how music has the power to heal. I co-wrote this arrangement of Over the Rainbow a few years ago and put it in my back pocket to use “someday.” I knew there would come a time that this arrangement of Over the Rainbow could be used for hope and healing….I just didn’t know when.
This Covenant tragedy was the time. I am calling this The Someday Project because that’s what I kept saying when I thought about recording the vocals for this song. And that “someday” is now. And not only is it being released into the world, but it’s being released with a HUGE purpose.
Two weeks or so after the tragedy, I gathered K-6 grade school children from across the city, and via a virtual choir to join in helping me sing this beautiful song…and it came out better than I could have even imagined.
Counseling for the children and families affected will be needed for years to come. There are many ways to help financially to facilitate these families getting the long-term counseling they need. One counseling group with which I have had personal experience is Daystar Counseling Ministries.
They have been serving Middle Tennessee children and families since 1985. Daystar is a 501c3, and uses a sliding scale to counsel their kids and families. They are truly committed to walking along families who are in crisis and hurting.
With much gratitude, Katie Peslis
