Sidewalk Prophets Shares “Hurt People (Love Will Heal Our Hearts)”
Curb Records award-winning band Sidewalk Prophets returns with megawatt anthem “Hurt People (Love Will Heal Our Hearts),” Serving as the lead track from the group’s upcoming fifth studio album, “Hurt People (Love Will Heal Our Hearts)” offers Sidewalk Prophets’ first taste of new music since 2020’s The Things That Got Us Here.
“It’s easy to fight hurt with hurt. We sometimes hide behind our tough words, sarcasm, pettiness and meanness. But all these responses steer us away from what we really want — HEALING,” observes Sidewalk Prophets frontman Dave Frey about the ultimate message behind the new song. “Hurt people, hurt people, but only the grace and love of Christ will heal our hearts.”
Doling out ample amounts of kindness, both for ourselves and others, the massive pop offering encourages listeners to extend forgiveness for the sharp words that often leave us feeling wounded and defensive. “Hurt People (Love Will Heal Our Hearts)” was written by Frey, Ben McDonald, Parker Welling and Jonathan Smith, and produced by Mark Campbell and Sidewalk Prophets members Cal Joslin and Dan Macal.
The trio recently wrapped the spring leg of their acclaimed “Songs & Stories Tour.” After debuting the intimate acoustic outing in 55 markets last year, the band took their stripped-down set to an additional 20 cities across 12 states in March and April. More tour dates will be announced soon as Sidewalk Prophets begins to preview new music from their next full-length project.

Our song Hurt People love will heal our hearts, comes from a place of trying to really understand the condition of our hearts. How do we deal with the hole that hurt leaves behind? Is healing hurt even possible?
Hurt is such a complex thing. Sometimes it can start out as sarcasm, maybe a snarky comment? Other times we hurt people in subtle ways without even knowing it. We are full of feelings that are sometimes evident, and other times buried deep beneath the surface. One action of hurt topples the others like a line of dominoes and before you know it can completely overwhelm. We begin to consciously or unconsciously weaponize our pain against each other.
The truth about hurt is that there is only one proven way to deal with it.
You see, the only way we can heal our hearts is to recognize, and let go of all the things that stand in the way of seeking what God desires for our lives and relationships. When the hurt of the world was placed upon our savior, Jesus looked at the very people that deserved to be hurt and said, “Father forgive them, they know not what they do.” To rest in the power, grace and love of Jesus, that’s what heals the hurt in our hearts.
Hurt people hurt people but the love of God will heal our hearts, then another, then another. -SWP
