[Music] Man Myth Legend – Rusty Shipp

Continuing the story of Rusty Shipp’s upcoming story-based, concept album “Dark Side of the Ocean,” their latest single “Man Myth Legend” hones in on the band’s surf punk sound that surfaced in former songs such as “Detonator” and “Caligynephobia.” The lyrics are a clearer glimpse into the concept story of the new album which describes an underwater kingdom of angels who encounter the souls of sailors that have sunk down from the surface — such as the narrator in the previous single, “Bottom of the Barrel.” Alarmed at the increasing rate of souls sinking down to their domain at the bottom of the ocean, they decide to risk the potential danger and ascend to the ocean’s surface to find out exactly what is causing the growing frequency of humans’ drowning.

To cut through all the conceptual imagery at the surface and dive in to what this song is really about, singer and founder of the group, Russ T. Shipp, gave the following statement about the underlying message of the song: “All conceptual narrative and nautical imagery aside…this song was written as a response to much of the explosive division that arose during the pandemic. The direct application to life from “Man Myth Legend” is that in our lives we often see glimpses of something troubling, or hear of people doing something dangerous or that seems to be in opposition to something we believe, but we often don’t have the courage to go check out things for ourselves and meet the people involved to get to know them and see what’s actually going on and why those people do what they do. It’s easier and more convenient to try and keep things so cut-and-dry, black-and-white, and just write people off as the enemy. But it’s much harder, riskier work to step into the grey, and give people the benefit of the doubt, and think of them as fellow humans just coming from a different place to get their own needs met. To engage with ‘opponents’ humbly and respectfully, to listen and learn from them about where they’re coming from and why they do what they do, is certainly awkward and uncomfortable, but the rewards of that hard work are greater than the rewards that come from playing it safe in our comfort zones, and indeed the results of that hard work are necessary to our overall survival as people.”

Accolades: Bottom of the Barrel,” the first single from the upcoming album, broke through the Top 25 list on Christian Music Weekly’s Rock chart making its chart debut at #21. It also was just added to RadioU’s Top 10 Most Wanted Songs (per listener requests), and was added to a rock and metal compilation from For The Rock. The video was premiered exclusively for an early release on CCM Magazine this week and was featured prominently in the CCM Magazine weekly newsletter. To promote the single, the band did many interviews for radio and online publications (Effect Radio, RadioU, 102.9 The Buzz–Nashville’s FM Rock station, and more).

Rusty Shipp is a Nashville-based hard rock band that combines Beatlesque melodies, surf and grunge riffs, and philosophical lyrics to create what they call Nautical Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Y’Anna Crawley gives a spirited rendition, aiming to bless lovers of the classic song and reach a new audience of younger Gospel music listeners.”

“It is an honor to be part of such a great song,” Y’Anna expresses.  “Timely enough, I feel that in this season of my life, God has given me a second chance, and I thank the Lord for it!”  Crawley is a Stellar Award-winning singer who released her debut album THE PROMISE, in 2010 and her most recent album, THIS IS ME, in 2021.  You can hear her vocal prowess on projects by Jennifer Lopez, Fantasia, Isaac Carree, William Murphy, Chrisette Michele, and Ledisi.  She also has notable camera appearances on the OWN Network TV drama series Greenleaf and A Question of Faith and Coming 2 America films.

The chart-topping hit song advances Winans’ first solo full-length album set for release later this year on DARE Records.

[Music] I Pray to You – The Rescued

“I Pray to You,” the third single release by The Rescued, a worship collective started by songwriter/musician James Jones, is set to drop at Christian AC and Worship-formatted radio outlets today. “I Pray to You” follows the No. 1 single, “Fill My Cup.”

Written by Jones and produced by Kevin Clark, the new single is the debut release under The Rescued Entertainment Group Label.

Previous radio releases have been chart toppers, with “Fill My Cup” claiming the No. 1 spot at CRC WeeklyNo. 3 at CRC Monthly and No. 6 at CRC Quaterly. The first single release, “iPraise,” hit No. 2 on CRC WeeklyNo. 4 on CRC Monthly and No. 10 on CRC Quarterly.

A collection of music, “The Rescued Unplugged Live,” was released in 2021 across multiple platforms and is available to purchase at betherescued.com/music.

“The production quality of this album is amazing,” says lead vocalist James Jones. Kevin Clark, a producer out of St. Louis, mixed and mastered the audio and Blue Ocean Media Group produced the video.

The Rescued is the result of Jones gathering St. Louis area worship leaders and musicians to work together to create an all-acoustic set of 25 original songs. The collective selected their seven favorites and created full band, radio versions that became the first, self-titled EP.

“Our goal is to bring light to the world and show God’s love through the songs he has poured into us.” Jones says.”John 1:5 says, ‘The Light shines in the darkness. The darkness has never been able to put out the Light.”

Because the team wanted to share its message with the surrounding community, The Rescued began playing at local churches and venues, including Church at the Bar, a local hot-spot for libations and worship. Church at the Bar was a good fit for The Rescued’s mission of reaching new Christians through music.

“Human nature leads us to want to be part of something that is bigger than ourselves,” Jones says.”Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, ‘Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.’

“The Rescued was not meant for us as musicians to have an outlet to write and play music. It was meant for the people of the community to be part of the experience of the salvation story,” he says. “At the end of the day, that’s the only thing that matters, to be rescued.”
