“The song ‘Plans’ is about that place where we often find ourselves – the grey space between faith and fear,” shares Rend Collective. “When we haven’t seen the answer to our prayers. There are elements of the song that hang unresolved, which is real to life. It’s an emotion we wanted to capture musically. We wrote this song as a pillar for us to lean on. In some ways, this song is for us as much as it is for you. We need help remembering to trust in the character of God, even when things shift around. This song reminds us that ultimately, God has a plan for our lives.”

Kingdom was written by Chandler Moore, Kirk Franklin, Jonathan Jay & Jacob Poole. It is the first single lifted from Maverick City Music’s upcoming collaboration album with Kirk Franklin entitled “Kingdom Book One” releasing June 17th, 2022.
Kingdom was recorded with the inmates at the Everglades Correctional Institution in Miami-Dade, Florida in early March of 2022. On Friday, June 17, GRAMMY award-winning music collective Maverick City Music and 16-time GRAMMY winner Kirk Franklin will bring the injustices around mass incarceration – and the voices of 1,300 inmates – to center stage with the release of their collaborative album KINGDOM Book 1, out June 17th via Tribl Records / Fo Yo Soul Entertainment / RCA Inspiration. A cornerstone to the thought-provoking collection and the first glimpse into what’s to come, the album’s title track “Kingdom” is available today (5.20).
Taking the idea of “prison performance” to another level, the genre-transcending, 11-track project made entirely from the grounds of a Florida prison, features Maverick City Music and Franklin recording the experience alongside more than ninety-percent of those who remain incarcerated at the location.
Joined by men from every walks of life – different gangs, races and backgrounds – ‘Kingdom Book 1′ evolved from an unfiltered message of love and universal acceptance and became a passionate, powerful movement that embodies the collective’s core beliefs of inspiring and helping others.
“I think this album is for every fan that loves music, and our hope is that these songs and the stories behind them will serve as a way to raise awareness to the challenges that people face everyday – many of which are forgotten about,” Maverick City Music’s Jonathan Jay explains. “For me, the most impactful part of this experience was the prisoners’ reaction to simply being remembered as humans. It was an overwhelming sense of gratitude and excitement that carried through every day we spent with these men. It was unbelievable, and I think if more people would just become aware of these feelings, they would want to help find a solution for the issues that come with incarceration.”
“We want awareness around the topics that affect the community that we represent, as black and brown people, primarily,” Maverick City Music’s Tony Brown continues. “It’s important that we’re able to not just share our songs, but also share the heart and the lives that these songs are coming from. Most of us, in some way, have been impacted by these issues, and as we mature as artists, the things that matter to us the most need to take precedence. This is one of them.”
“In addition to awareness, I hope this album motivates people to do something about these issues,” says Brown. “It’s being proactive – giving to foundations that help figure out how to stop mass incarceration, volunteering in communities that are grossly affected by it, and acknowledging that this is a real thing. If we can get a small amount of people to simply acknowledge this issue exists, then that’s a huge win for us.”
This year is poised to be the biggest yet for the young pioneers of Maverick City Music. The group just won a GRAMMY for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album and completed a historic televised performance on the show. Nominated across four categories at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, with triple nods in one category, and receiving three 2022 K-Love Awards nominations earlier this week, the group will take the music and the movement behind ‘Kingdom Book 1’ on the road this summer with their headline ‘Kingdom Tour’ alongside Franklin. NASHVILLE, Tennessee (May 20, 2022) – American Music Award-winning, GRAMMY-nominated pop vocal group Avalon has long been admired for show-stopping, mega-hits like “Testify To Love,” “Can’t Live A Day,” and “Adonai.” While these iconic compositions have shaped their legacy and remain close to their hearts, the members of Avalon – Janna Long, Greg Long, Jody McBrayer, and Dani Rocca-Herbert – are ready to explore a new musical direction.
Today, with the release of a self-titled, brand-new project, the group has officially announced a name change – Avalon Worship. Produced by Don Koch, this new Red Street Records project – Avalon Worship– reflects who they are as individuals as well as a worship collective.
“For the past eleven years Greg and I have been staff worship leaders at a local church north of Houston,” Janna says. “Jody’s also a staff worship leader at a church in Ohio. Dani became a worship leader right out of high school. Leading worship has been a natural progression in our personal lives, so it made sense to extend that into our recording world.” “We’re all personally in a place where we need the connection only genuine worship can bring,” Jody adds. “There’s real healing and safety in the presence of God. These songs are where we are as adults and as Christians and believers.”
This natural evolution has given the group a renewed energy for creating music that edifies and encourages.
Avalon Worship includes both original recordings as well as worship covers of some of the most well-known songs sung in churches every weekend, all carried by the group’s signature, powerhouse vocals.

“You Deserve It All” – a new track – is a vocal-forward, heart-mover reminiscent of the group’s early hits. “It’s a stunning song that encompasses what worship is all about,” Jody says. “We were created to worship. Every weekend I drive from Nashville to Cincinnati where I serve at a local church there. Sometimes when it’s time to leave I think, ‘I don’t want to go do this.’ But this song, every time I hear it, I’m reminded this opportunity is afforded by God and I have a chance to give it back to Him. He deserves that back in praise.”
“Here,” a song Greg Long co-wrote with Don Koch (who produced the album) and Dave Clark, is an honest cry about our need for God’s presence. “That line, ‘we’re fine to come here empty, as long as we leave with you,’ came from the writer’s room,” says Greg. “It was one of those days. I’d flown in from Houston to Nashville and had several writing appointments. I got in the room with Don and Dave and said, well, any ideas? We were empty. I said, we need Him here with us. Let’s stop and pray. So we did, we asked the Lord to be in the room and He was. When He shows up, everything changes. And we’re so glad.”
Musical and vocal standout “So It Will Ever Be,” is an impassioned track heralding God’s sovereignty and how there is none like Him. “It’s not an easy word to accept, sovereignty,” Greg shares. “Especially when things aren’t going your way. Resting in His sovereignty is not always easy, but it’s always right.” “You cannot deny the sovereignty of God,” Jody says. “He is going to be that forever. We can rewrite that to make ourselves feel better, we can try to manipulate the gospel, manipulate who God is, but He will always be who He is. His narrative is forever. His sovereignty is forever.”
Adding their well-tuned vocal arrangements to worship hits like “Rattle,” “The Blessing,” and “Graves Into Gardens,” the songs become instantly singable. But the group chose which covers to include based on what the message and lyrics meant to them. “We chose these covers based on how they connected with us and how they’ve connected with the body of Christ as a whole,” Janna says. “‘ The Blessing’ is one of those songs that came during the pandemic,” Dani says. “I think we’re all grieving something we don’t know how to process. Most of us haven’t grieved what happened, we just survived it and went through it. For me, ‘The Blessing’ reflects the grieving process, the Lord carrying us through the unknown.” “It’s a song we all wanted to do,” Jody says. “We all have families and children and the way that song echoes the favor of God on our children…the first time I heard it I sat in my living room and wept. Because that’s what we want.”

“State of the Union looks at where we intersect with God, with each other, and with ourselves,” explains Amanda Cook. “It’s about relationship and healing the way that I relate to everything. We can’t control or manipulate anything that happens out there, the only things we can control are our thoughts and what’s in our hearts. The fact that we get to bring our thoughts to the Christ-mind is incredible. Sometimes I forget how kind he really is, and that we can sit in His love and compassion.”
Cook co-wrote the songs on the new project with GRAMMY®-winning producers Jason Ingram and Paul Mabury (Lauren Daigle, Cory Ashbury) as well as renowned worship leaders and songwriters Steffany Gretzinger and Pat Barrett. Celebrating her new album, she has hosted listening events in both Los Angeles and Nashville with her close friends, songwriters, and producers to share the heart behind the songs. She also sat down with New York Times bestselling author and podcast host Annie F. Downs to have a conversation about her album. “The title started out as kind of a joke,” she shares with Annie F. Downs. “Throughout the making of the album, I was dealing with a lot of mental clutter and anxiety. I would give these speeches to my producers about where I’m at and what I’m dealing with, and so one day Jason [Ingram] asked, ‘So, Amanda, what’s the state of the union today?’ and I probably gave him a speech about how insecure I was or what I was going through.”
Supporting the release of the album are lyric videos for three of the songs, “Miracle of the Mind,” “While We Wait,” and “Where the War Ends.” In addition, the audio-video for the song “Our Jesus” is available now.
