GRAMMY award-winning Gospel superstar Tamela Mann releases the highly anticipated Overcomer: Deluxe Edition album across all major digital streaming platforms. The new version of her critically-acclaimed album Overcomer features both reimagined renditions of fan favorites and all-new music, including the newly released streaming single, “Superheroes Prayer” featuring Yolanda Adams and the new live version of “Finished,” impacting gospel radio Monday, July 25. 

In addition to Tamela’s masterful vocals soaring throughout the project, additional special guest features include industry heavy-hitters Wyclef Jean, Kirk Franklin, Tim Rogers & The Fellas, and Todd Dulaney. Overcomer: Deluxe Edition is distributed by The Orchard, and available as a digital only release. Marking her sixth studio offering, Overcomer: Deluxe Edition is heralded as some of the superstar’s best work. Tamela Mann was recently named both the Contemporary Female Artist of the Year and the Albertina Walker Female Artist of the Year at the 37^th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards held in Atlanta, GA. Tamela’s son, David Mann Jr. also took home the award for Music Video of the Year, for his creation of the music video for Tamela’s hit song “Help Me,” featuring The Fellas from the original version of her album Overcomer. Adding to the excitement, last week a special ceremony was held to celebrate Tamela, who was presented with the Crown Jewel of Excellence at the world-renowned Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame (BMEWOF). A joint initiative by the Black American Music Association (BAMAssoc) and Georgia Entertainment Caucus (GEC), the BMEWOF honors iconic individuals and organizations that have impacted Black culture and community alongside those who continue to lead us into the future. The Crown Jewel of Excellence emblems are permanently installed on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, in front of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in historic downtown Atlanta, GA, where they are preserved to be seen by generations to come. Other inductees this year included Prince (Legacy), NAS (Hip Hop), Bob Marley (International), Patti LaBelle (Legacy), RUN DMC (Foundational), Steve Harvey (Mogul), Angela Bassett (Actress), Charlie Wilson (Mainstream), The Clark Sisters (Gospel Group) and more.

Makpo is a Gospel singer/songwriter, worship leader and author based in London, UK. After his last release in December 2020, he took a break from music. During that time, he discovered a deep passion in worship amidst life challenges. Now back with this new uplifting single, ‘Take Your Place’ is a soft rock worship song that will speak to the spirits of many. Needless to say, we have truly missed Makpo’s tunes. 

Opening with soft keys, followed by his sonorous vocals layered with celestial backings; this track is a melodious prayer beckoning the Holy Spirit to take His place in our lives. Speaking on how the song came to be, Makpo explains that it started off only as a prayer chorus written by his friend, Seun many years ago. He recently found the song on replay in his spirit and realized how much of a blessing it had been to him. Wanting to share that feeling with others, with the help of his wife, Odunola, He added a verse and a bridge, and ‘Take Your Place’ was born.

‘We can achieve so much more with the help of the Holy Spirit. In fact, the journey is meant to be done in the Spirit – “Walk in the Spirit”. I pray ‘Take Your Place’ song is a blessing to you as it has been to me’ Makpo explained

In Matthew 11:28 Jesus says, “come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” He says, “take my yoke upon you and learn from me”.

Jesus also likens us to sheep in the Bible and unlike a donkey or a camel, sheep were never made to carry loads so in the same way we were never made to carry our own burdens. That is why

Jesus urges us to take upon us His yoke. For His yoke is easy and his burden is light. I was reminded in these scriptures that only Jesus can give us peace and fulfilment. Regardless of the challenges we face resting in Him is trusting in Him and that is what anchors us through the storms of life.

2. Umbuso 

A Zulu word meaning “Kingdom” taken from the Lord’s Prayer – “Your Kingdom come your will be done”.

More than just a prayer this song is a call to action for the children of God. A reminder that the only way for the Kingdom of Heaven to be established here on earth is through us taking a stand, doing the will of the father, and speaking His will into our situations and circumstances. In Genesis 1:28 it says God created man and then gave him dominion over the birds in the air, the fish in the sea and every living creature that moves on the earth. 

We have dominion, we have authority here on earth. And we have divine empowerment because the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead resides in us.

Jesus protects us but more than that He restores us. If we will withhold nothing and bring our full selves to Him, he is a restorer of broken hearts, broken dreams, and lost vision. Nothing surprises God, our missteps and faults do not get in the way of what He has planned for us. Doesn’t matter why you did; He has not changed His mind about You because He knew everything about you before He called and chose you.

4. Everything

This upbeat, fun track really is me just basking in the realization and knowledge that Jesus is everything I need. Seek first the Kingdom of Heaven and all these other things shall be added unto you. We spend time chasing all these other things through our own efforts and plans not

realizing that there is a simpler way to lead life. Trusting in Him, resting in Him and loving in a heart-posture of total surrender.

“God can you handle me?” That part is me admitting and surrendering everything in God’s hands, I wanted to write a song that would make others feel they are not alone in the pain and fear that we live through in order to endure.

I love that Jesus doesn’t simply say we’ll have trials and sorrow and then leaves it to us to figure out. Instead, he promises peace and reminds us that he has overcome the world, meaning our hardships aren’t without purpose.

This is why the Apostle Paul who experienced much pain and difficulty can boldly declare these words in Romans 8:28.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Everything indeed will change, fail and definitely pass away. Except God’s love, Grace and faithfulness. Some songs are gotten in the place of plenty, this isn’t one of them. As the bills piled up, long time friends and colleagues walked away, and contracts were called off.

Late at night one of those days, the tears, pain and disappointments were too heavy, I tried to pray but my ears heard my voice saying “God, you are good, you are kind”.
