Today’s release, “Stand,” was penned by Wilson with frequent collaborators Matthew West, Jeff Pardo and Jonathan Smith. “Stand” finds Wilson steadily building vocal momentum with each verse, delivering a passionate call to stand firm on faith-filled truths. Staying true to the ‘REBEL’ spirit seen on her recent album, Wilson encourages the listener to dare to be different.

“These days, our world feels so divided. It can make us feel afraid to speak up about things that matter to us,” shared Wilson. “Writing my record, REBEL, fired me up to think about how I can live my life and my faith boldly, unafraid to stand up for what I believe in. ‘Stand’ is a song that came out of feeling all those feelings.

I want to stand up for love in a world filled with hate, stand for peace where there’s division, stand for my faith in God and stand for the freedom we get to enjoy in this great country. I want to stand proudly like a cross on a hill that stood for me and I hope you do too!”

Wilson’s momentum continues to build as she heads into the 55th annual GMA Dove Awards with four nominations, bringing her Dove total to eleven nominations and two wins in the last two years.

Taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the Allen Arena in Nashville, Tenn., Wilson is up for Artist of the Year for the first time, along with nods for Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year for “Strong,” Bluegrass/Country/Roots Recorded Song of the Year for “Praying Woman” with Lainey Wilson and Bluegrass/Country/Roots Album of the Year for REBEL. The Awards will air exclusively on TBN and TBN+ and simulcast on SiriusXM The Message on Friday, October 4 at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET.

Wilson’s “upbeat banger” (GRAMMY.com) “Songs About Whiskey” from her sophomore album REBEL continues to be heard on Country airwaves, while “The Cross (with Chris Tomlin)” simultaneously spins at Christian radio.

[Music] Father To Son – Brian Doerksen

I started writing this song the month our first son was born in the early 90’s when I was 26. What I didn’t know as I began to sing these words was that Benjamin had Fragile X Syndrome and would require full time support for life. This song then became the opening song for the musical Father’s House. In the original script, a young man goes to the mall on a Saturday afternoon and gets handed a card by a curious old woman with his name on it.

When he opens the card, this song begins to play. This 30th anniversary version of the song remains true to the spirit of the original in its arrangement and features the same guitarist Brian Thiessen playing nylon guitar. It also features 2 cello parts weaving in and out representing the relationship between a father and son. These days my vocal range is a bit lower (so this version is 3 semitones lower), but it’s still all about the heart of a father singing over his son.

Our sons and daughters are our greatest treasures; and all of us are treasured by our Father in heaven. I hope this reimagined version of this song helps you receive that truth, no matter who your earthly father is. You are loved. -Doerksen

Review: Cliff & Susan’s “Waiting on You” – A Soulful Country Gem

“Waiting on You,” the latest offering from married duo Cliff & Susan, is a testament to the enduring charm and emotional depth of country music. Recorded in the legendary FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, this track not only draws upon the rich musical heritage of its recording location but also leverages the undeniable chemistry between its creators to deliver a powerful, heartfelt duet.

The single opens with a gentle, evocative melody that sets the stage for a narrative of love and serendipitous waiting. Cliff’s opening lines, “Heaven knows where I’d be if I was all on my own,” immediately pull the listener into a personal journey, complemented by Susan’s resonant response which layers personal longing with a touch of fate and familial hopes.

Musically, “Waiting on You” is anchored by classic country instrumentation. The inclusion of Clayton Ivey on organ and Andy Dixon on bass provides a rich, textured backdrop that enhances the song’s emotional weight. Scott Todd’s guitar and Justin Holder’s drums punctuate the track with rhythmical elegance, helping to drive the narrative forward and weaving seamlessly with the duo’s vocal harmonies.

The lyrics of “Waiting on You” are both poetic and relatable, capturing the universal theme of waiting for true love, a sentiment that resonates deeply whether in a rural country town or a bustling city. The chorus, catchy and uplifting, is likely to stay in listeners’ minds long after the song ends, “Waiting on you to come around like I’m gathering up dust in the lost and found.”

Production-wise, the song benefits massively from the blending of Spencer Coats and Cliff Prowse’s production skills, managing to sound both fresh and timeless. The influence of Muscle Shoals’ historic sound is palpable, lending the track a soulful vibe that complements its modern country aesthetic perfectly.

“Waiting on You” is a beautifully crafted song that should appeal to both old and new fans of country music. Cliff & Susan have delivered a track that feels both intimate and universal, personal and deeply relatable. It stands as a strong contender to follow the chart-topping success of their previous hits and solidifies their place in the country music landscape.
