Jason Gray Debuts First Children’s Book ‘Sparrows’ October 22 From Centricity Music

Critically acclaimed Centricity Music singer/songwriter Jason Gray debuts his first children’s book, Sparrows, based on his popular award-winning song by the same name. Drawing inspiration from this radio hit off his 2016 album Where the Light Gets In, Gray joined creative forces with noted children’s author Jes Woller and illustrator Hilary Griffith in the release of this heartwarming children’s hardcover book geared to kids ages three to eight.

“I’ve always dreamed of writing a children’s book,” declares Jason Gray, “And when Centricity Music offered to partner with me in that endeavor, I sat down with my friend Kory Henkel, Director of Marketing and Communications, to discuss which of my songs had a message that could translate well to children. ‘Sparrows’ was the obvious pick!

unnamed 1

“From there we brainstormed about a storyline that would be age appropriate and meaningful, ultimately collaborating with co-writer Jes Woller, who has a real gift for speaking the language of children,” continues Gray. “The process resulted in the story of Ellie, a little girl who struggles daily with stuttering, and how she overcame her anxiety by trusting God with her worries and responding to bullying with love, kindness and compassion instead of retaliation.”

With a genuine heart for connecting with others and known for the compassionate honesty and authenticity he offers through his music, Gray drew from his own personal experience and shares that Matthew 6:25-34 and Matthew 10:29-31 are the cornerstone verses for both the song and the book, each addressing the theme of trusting God in the face of anxiety and worry.

As a child, Gray struggled with a speech impediment, so incorporating this into the storyline of Sparrows was a way to share his own struggles in hopes of helping others.

“Growing up with a stutter, I was always anxious about being called on in class, or being singled out because I was different. It was especially tough since I was actually eager to speak up, but didn’t feel like I could,” recalls Gray. “As I began to be aware of God’s calling on my life, I had to learn to trust Him with all of that. We tried to bring elements of that experience into the story of Ellie.”

Additionally, Gray shares that Proverbs 15:1 and Matthew 5:43-44 are important verses to the story, as well as Romans 5:8, which says “…while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Because Ellie felt bullied by another classmate, she learned about how God wants us to treat our enemies and how to answer cruelty with love.

“I hope the story of Ellie will remind kids that God is with them in all of their fears and anxieties. The best thing we can do to keep our hearts intact is to give our anxieties to God and trust that He is with us, He constantly cares for us, and that He’s always working behind the scenes,” shares Gray.

Book Synopsis:

Ellie worried constantly. She worried about her little brothers making her late, forgetting to bring her lunch to school, or getting teased about her stutter. When her desk was moved next to Annabelle’s, she had more to worry about than ever. One Sunday morning Ellie heard about how God cares for the sparrows, and something started to change.

This engaging picture book:

  • Addresses the theme of trusting God in the face of anxiety and worry based on Matthew 6:25-34 and Matthew 10:29-31.
  • Reassures children that God loves them and constantly cares for them.
  • Reminds kids that they are seen, loved and cherished by God.
  • Teaches young readers about empathy and compassion and how to show love to others by answering meanness with kindness and cruelty with love based on Proverbs 15:1, Matthew 5:43-44 and Romans 5:8.
  • Echoes the message from the chorus of “Sparrows”:

You may feel alone, but you’re not on your own

…If He (God) can hold the world, He can hold this moment

…Not a field or flower escapes His notice

Oh even the sparrow knows, He holds tomorrow”

  • Shows kids how to be a kind and loving friend.

Lady Redneck’s latest single, “A Child of God,” is a heartfelt anthem that beautifully encapsulates themes of healing, self-discovery, and divine love. This powerful track serves not only as a personal testimony of the artist’s journey but also as a universal message of hope and acceptance.

From the very first note, the song envelops the listener in a warm embrace of sincerity. Lady Redneck’s vocals are both commanding and tender, perfectly conveying the struggle of feeling broken while simultaneously celebrating the transformative power of faith. The juxtaposition of her earlier feelings of incompleteness with the joyous realization of her worth as “a child of God” creates an emotional depth that resonates profoundly.

One of the most striking aspects of the single is its incorporation of a children’s choir, including her 10-year-old daughter, Brynn Lee. This addition adds a layer of innocence and purity that enhances the song’s message. The harmonious voices of the children in the final verse evoke a sense of nostalgia and warmth, elevating the overall impact of the track. Following her chart-topping 2024 single, “Stolen Night Sky,” “Eloquence” beautifully narrates the transition of fleeting moments of happiness and joy through its intricate musical structure.

Recorded on a stunning Bosendorfer piano at the esteemed St. Pauls’ Centre in Orillia, Ontario, and produced by Nixon Boyd, “Eloquence” is a vivid testament to Milne’s innovative approach to classical music. The piece kicks off with a delicate piano melody that establishes a graceful momentum, effortlessly transitioning through varying phases of eighth notes, triplets, and swing phrases. Josiah Queen Tells Apple Music About His Debut Album, ‘The Prodigal,’ & Creating Music With A Purpose

Christian artist and newcomer Josiah Queen joins The Kelleigh Bannen Show to talk about his debut album, ‘The Prodigal,’ and creating music with a purpose.

Josiah Queen Tells Apple Music About What Inspired Him to Write “The Prodigal

It’s funny because it’s the song that I wrote about not wanting fame or money, [and it] has brought more of that. And I think that’s… my heart message. And I think I’ll always write about that. I think we’ve all tried in our life [and], at one point have thought, and maybe it was people or money or something, we thought that thing would bring [us] satisfaction, but then there’s always just this uncomfortable feeling of like, “Well, it just never did.”… In my life, I’ve always felt that way about certain things and about money and fame and growing up, I just noticed it never actually fully satisfied me.

Josiah Queen Tells Apple Music About Living His Life with Purpose

I want my every day to be lived with purpose. And I can only do that by serving God and serving other people. And if I spend my day serving myself and buying myself all this stuff and trying to make work and trying to make myself as famous as I can be, I just see it as just wasting another day. I just don’t want to waste my life.

Josiah Queen Recalls to Apple Music Releasing His Debut Album

Having a first album is a dream come true, and I was super proud of it. I knew every song I put on there I truly loved, just in a way that I really meant it and I really worked at it hard… Just being able to look back and go to these shows and just seeing all these people that it’s affected in their lives and people loving these songs, it’s like I’ve realized that that hard work is never to cheapen that and only strive for songs that really mean something because those are the songs that really will last.

Josiah Queen Tells Apple Music He Wants to Leave a Legacy with His Music

I want to make songs that last longer than I do, like when I die that people will be able to pass these songs on. That’s every songwriter’s dream. And you can only do that by taking that time. It takes me months to write songs sometimes, so it’s like, especially what you’re saying, people are like, “Well, you just ran an album. Now, next year you got to make another one.” You’re like, “Well, I just never want to rush to process.”
