Some of Christian music’s favorite performers appear on a newly released album from Keith & Kristyn Getty: Sing! In Christ Alone – Live at the Getty Music Worship Conference.

Recorded live at the Sing! In Christ Alone conference held at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville in September 2021, the album features the pre-eminent modern hymn writers in the world today, Keith and Kristyn Getty, in collaboration with guest artists including Laura Story, Chris Tomlin, Jubilant Sykes, Bill Gaither, Buddy Greene, Tommy Bailey, Travis Cottrell, Matt Boswell, Matt Papa, Shane & Shane, Stefanie Limanputri and others.

The 3rd Annual Grizzly Awards event is now available to stream in full on Facebook, YouTube, and below, following its April 3 livestream.

The event included performances from Seventh Day Slumber, Remedy Drive, Nate Parrish and Dire, alongside presenter appearances from industry legends like Travis Wyrick, Trevor McNevan (Thousand Foot Krutch), Brian “Head” Welch (Korn, Love & Death), Austin Carlile (The Whosoevers), James Mead (Kutless), Josiah Prince (Disciple) and Andrew Stanton (Disciple). The Grizzly Awards were hosted by Egypt Speaks, acclaimed poet and spoken word artist.

“The purpose of The Grizzly Awards was to celebrate this genre as a whole, reaching far below simply the nominees and the winners,” co-founder Mary Nikkel shares on behalf of The Grizzly Awards leadership team. “We truly felt that during the event, where we were surrounded by this community both in person and through everyone watching online. We truly hope that it was deeply encouraging to everyone who was able to be a part of it.

The Grizzly Awards stream began on Facebook, but moved to YouTube partway through the show due to technical challenges. The newly uploaded video allows viewers to watch it in full on both platforms. The Grizzlies team shares, “We’re so grateful to everyone for persisting with us through the countless challenges of creating a livestream event on this scale. That was yet more evidence of the passion and the purpose-focused heart of rock and metal listeners!”

The Grizzly Awards was funded entirely by generous sponsors and individual donors and filmed on site at Westlight Studios in Franklin, Tenn. The results of the awards were determined by fan voting, which took place in February. Grammy award winning artist Chris Tomlin is partnering with Facebook to expand his Good Friday Nashville event to a global audience through an exclusive livestream premiering on Facebook. Chris spoke to the Tennessean about the event HERE. “There’s nothing like being there with people and gathering with people. It (Good Friday Nashville) just keeps growing and growing and growing … with what we’re able to do,” Chris said. “But the heart of it is the same. Coming together to remember the cross, to remember this weekend. That’s what Easter is: It’s a remembrance of what Jesus has done for us.”

During the pandemic the last two years when a live concert was not possible, Chris was committed to finding a way to maintain the tradition in light of the inability to gather together physically. Chris called his friends to help and to partner together for Good Friday Worldwide. The television network TBN and more than 30 radio stations offered their support to bring the world together during this time. The virtual concert delivered the message of hope that comes from the cross while uniting the church in worship. The television broadcast was seen in 32 countries around the globe. In that spirit of unity and collaboration, everyone brought their unique gifts, audiences, and voices together to meet people wherever they were, all at the same time and in the same moment across this world, delivering the message of hope that comes from the cross while uniting the church in worship.

Throughout the history of Good Friday Nashville and Good Friday Worldwide, K-LOVE and Air1 radio have partnered alongside Tomlin in making the event a local, and now global, tradition. The stations are continuing their support this year by delivering a live simulcast of the concert on air that night.

Buzzing into being like a second-hand mower, “How Long” is an abrupt alarm that shocks then awakens the soul’s defense systems. Psalm-like in its complexity, the new single by Weston Skaggs, is a protest anthem, dirge, and Whitmanian reflection all rolled into one pill. Just as beloved America’s bard once quipped, “Every atom belonging to me, belongs to you,” Skaggs’ elongated notes in the chorus are cut from the universal chord charts of being human.

The movement of the song fluctuates from a wintry mix of doubt into the beginning of Spring. Early indignant verses evoke the names of biblical stalwarts as a kind of inductive evidence list–a Who’s Who list– meant to show God the error of his ways. After the first minute of the song, Skaggs’ voice turns hard and petrified, assured of the perspective and justification of the grief imbued all through the song. But this is not a simple plot of show and tell: showing God how many of His beloved have suffered and telling everyone about it to spark outrage. Instead, the audience begins to hear a tonal shift in the chorus dynamics and intuits the symbolic peaks and valleys of Christian life altogether in the cries of “How long?” Tapping into the prophetic tradition of Isaiah and others, Skaggs pulls forth a deep communal cry for God–not against him– to change His mind on our behalf. How long will we need to languish in the aftermath of a pandemic? How long will our ruptured relationships remain untended and withering on the vine? How long will we see injustices around us through abuses of power?

“Father, teach me to wait even in heartbreak,” is almost whispered nearly two minutes into the track whereby the artist seems to be preparing to ascend a hill again, touting his prayer, in an aggressive ascendance to the temple of God. But rather than discovering more escalations in blood pressure and digressions of fault and blame, the litany of “How long” gradually becomes softer and distilled. The question shifts. The cross examination begins. God asks, “How Long?” The venom and self-righteousness of the human questioner evaporates until, child-like, the voice simply begs to know when things will return to hope.

In fact, “How Long” is a duplex with one apartment set in despair and the other established in hope. By the end, the hypnotic call of “How long” is not aimed at God, but is uttered by the believer at the believer him or herself. The list of names, props of the empty judicial hearings brought by a faulty prosecutor, are gone too. Instead, the question of “How long” is snapped off the icy, communal wall of outrage, and becomes a single clear mirror in which each listener is asked to see our reflection and feel the ache of others while wondering if we, in our propensity to cry out, might not be the hands and feet of God ourselves.

Spencer Annis is a rising singer-songwriter based in Lynchburg, Virginia. His new single, “Coming Clean,” is an intimate worship song and spirited indie rock anthem that pushes the sonic boundaries of both worship music and Christian pop/rock.

After independently releasing singles, EPs, and even several albums since 2017, Spencer partnered with renowned CCM label Integrity Music for his upcoming singles and LP release. His new song, “Coming Clean,” was released today April 8th, and the full album will be released in July of this year.

The new single by Spencer Annis, “Coming Clean” is a song of reflection and repentance for allowing pride to creep in. He hopes the song will inspire listeners to a deeper place with God in their own prayer lives and reflection of how pride might also be affecting their ministry. 

Recording sessions for this song and the upcoming album mirrored what you’d expect from a typical DIY-era rock band. Vocals were tracked in Spencer’s home studio, Drums in co-producer Joshua Sosin’s backyard shed, and guitars in co-producer Benja Schick’s bedroom.

“Coming Clean” features Spencer, Benja, and Joshua as the sole musicians. The trio worked together for months to transform Spencer’s intimate, worshipful arrangement into a fully-produced new song with cohesive instrumentation and flow.

From the Valley to the Golden Shore, the full-length debut from worship newcomers The Wood Drake Sessions, is set to bow April 29. Showcasing collaborations with such luminaries as bestselling singer/songwriter and worship leader Sandra McCracken; singer/songwriter Leslie Jordan (All Sons & Daughters); modern hymnist Wendell Kimbrough; and NPR-lauded singer/songwriter Liz Vice, among others, the album was written by The Wood Drake Sessions’ co-creators Paul Ranheim and Kirk Sauers.

Produced by Lucas Morton, From the Valley to the Golden Shore features nine roots-based, organic pop tracks conveying the surety of Christ’s sovereignty despite the turmoil of the times. Offering a preview of the album’s overarching message, the April 15 Easter-themed single “All Will Be Well” is a Sauers-led track joyfully proclaiming Jesus’ victory over death, “I’m alive/I have won/See the grave I’ve overcome.

Additional highlights include album opener “Oh How Good To Be Together,” an engaging corporate worship anthem led by McCracken; “I See A King,” with Vice’s signature vocals atop an R&B-infused groove celebrating the Savior who will right all wrongs; the Kimbrough-featured “Grace Will Prevail,” articulating God’s unfailing promises; and Jordan’s poignant closer, “Bountifully With Me,” a gentle song of praise for Christ’s provision.

“Our great desire is to see the Church flourish today, and we believe new songs that capture God’s faithfulness and great deeds in the midst of our cultural moment are important for her flourishing,” Sauers shares. “We hope our music can inspire and stir the affections of our hearts to continue to love, trust and enjoy God. “All too often we feel like we’re drowning in the noise of this world,” Ranheim adds. “We need to be reminded that we have a King who is coming, and believers of all cultures, races, and times—along with all creation itself—will rejoice at the restoration and shalom that Jesus will bring. We need songs that shape us to hope deeply in Him.”

“We wanted the album to be brought to life by a variety of people, to have greater representation than just our own voices,” Ranheim continues. “I still remember the moment I heard Sandra in my head singing ‘Oh How Good To Be Together,’ and I knew she could make that song come to life unlike anyone else. Pretty soon we found ourselves reaching out to a handful of artists who all generously agreed to join in our mission.”

“The Wood Drake Sessions name was inspired by a Wendell Berry poem, ‘The Peace of Wild Things,’” explains Sauers of both the duo’s moniker and mission. “When despair grows within, the poet writes of lying down ‘where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water.’ The imagery of a still and worriless creation extending its welcome of peace profoundly touched the ache of our hearts. Paul and I knew this was how we wanted our songs to exist—as works of art inviting us into the stillness of God’s presence, the grace of His goodness, and the rest of perfect peace.”
