FAITHFUL’s ‘A Woman’ is performed by Ellie Holcomb and Amy Grant, telling the story of Jesus’ revolutionary empowerment of the first women who told the world of his resurrection. The single was recorded live at Ocean Way Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, capturing the warm, powerful vocals and authentic interpretation inhabiting FAITHFUL’s musicianship. Written by Ann Voskamp, Ellie Holcomb, and Sarah Macintosh, ‘A Woman’ poetically tells the story of a woman who didn’t quit by fear of irrelevance and crippling grief but followed the way of Jesus in love and obedience to Him. Her name was Mary Magdalene, the first witness of the Lord’s resurrection.
‘A Woman’ is built around Jesus’ apparition at the empty tomb as he calls Mary’s name and shatters her paradigm of sorrow. With this profound song, which was featured on Good Morning America, FAITHFUL revive our hope that we too can say, “once my name crossed his lips, how can I keep silent…” Because the tomb is empty, our lives aren’t. It’s only because the stone is rolled back that our surest hope comes back. From its emotionally charged verses and catchy chorus to the epic bridge, ‘A Woman’ is an ode of defiant joy and validation to be Christ’s voices in this world!
Coming to life in the winter before the pandemic, a group of well-known and respected authors and songwriters gathered as a community to write and share songs. Their work came to be known as FAITHFUL: songs and stories of God’s kindness to women throughout history and here with us today. Their debut album ‘FAITHFUL: Go and Speak’ shares songs from many of today’s renowned artists, songwriters, and authors; each song on this special thematic album featuring a woman telling the story of God’s faithfulness throughout Scripture to the present day. This collaboration between artists and authors has led to a collection of poetry and resonance through song. Artists involved on the album are Amy Grant, Ellie Holcomb, Ann Voskamp, Sarah Macintosh, Sandra McCracken, Ginny Owens, Leslie Jordan, Christy Nockels, Rachael Lampa, Kelly Minter, Savannah Locke, Sarah Kroger, Christa Wells, Tamar Chipp, Jess Ray, Janice Gaines, Trilla Newbell, and Taylor Leonhardt.
The only female duo in the worship sphere, Mission House present their second deluxe single including new song ‘Whole Heart’ alongside ‘Good God’, which featured on their latest album. Written by Mission House’s Taylor Leonhardt and Jess Ray with Leslie Jordan, ‘Whole Heart’ is a song about showing up fully to life with Jesus, allowing us to imagine what might happen if we didn’t hold any part of ourselves back. It speaks trust in God in the face of our cultural moment, where constant demands of perfection and pretending weigh heavy on our souls. The new song is paired with ‘Good God’, a track that Mission House released during lockdown and that they dreamt of singing with their community, declaring the unchanging goodness of God. This version was recorded in a room full of Mission House’s friends live in Raleigh as a testament to God’s faithfulness to bring us through any situation. For Mission House to weave new and old songs in such cohesive way whilst highlighting their congregational potential shows their songwriting’s steadfastness.
A 7-song live record served as Mission House’s official self-titled debut with Integrity Music in 2019, followed by their 2020 studio album, I Heard A Song I Can’t Ignore. The worship songs captured on this album were released the next year in engaging acoustic audio and video versions with guests including Josh Baldwin, Andrew Peterson, and Leslie Jordan. Now working on a live album scheduled for mid-2022, the duo continues to establish their immense songwriting talent and musicianship. The friendship and shared vision behind Mission House create a beautiful and tangible space for intimacy, where people can commune with one another and with their Creator through simple and joyful folk/rock worship music.
Ultimately, Mission House are driven by their focus on people, and making worship that truly serves others as individuals first, and the body as a whole secondarily. It’s not about hype, or flash, it’s just real, intimate, heart-felt worship that is full of depth and reverence that helps us all connect more with Him, and each other.
