His four recent songs—“All in All,” “Jenny,” “Already In,” and “I Wish I Knew”—are meditations on longing, brokenness, and the hope of connection. And when heard through the lens of faith, they echo the universal cry for grace and redemption.

“All in All” feels almost like a psalm for the weary artist. “I got my symphony and I got rent / Got no sympathy, and my life’s spent.” The lyric is brutally honest about the cost of chasing dreams, the collision of calling and survival. Yet the chorus—“All in all, to be with you”—offers a glimmer of something more. “Jenny” is the most haunting. Jenny is broken, searching, fragile—“a kite with nothing to hold her down,” “a paper man” to fold and discard. She carries wounds, even a “purple heart,” but the love she longs for cannot heal her. To a Christian listener, Jenny is every soul chasing fulfillment in the wrong places, every wanderer lost in the wilderness of desire without finding the anchor of God’s love.

The song becomes a reminder of how human relationships, however tender, can never completely satisfy the hunger only Christ can fill.

“Already In” offers a brighter picture, though it’s still tinged with the complexities of surrender. “Your waves have made my shore,” Erlich sings. The image of waves shaping a shore recalls the way God’s Spirit reshapes our lives when we finally yield. But there’s a dual edge here: surrendering to passion can also lead to ruin. The repeated refrain—“I’m already in”—reads like both confession and commitment. For people of faith, it’s a powerful reminder that surrender is inevitable. The question is: to whom will we yield—our impulses, or our Savior?

The heaviest track, “I Wish I Knew,” speaks with raw honesty about regret and unanswered questions. “The murder weapon is you.” “Your clenching teeth keep him near.” These lines describe a love turned violent, destructive, even fatal.

It’s painful, yes—but it’s also truthful about sin’s wages. And yet, within the yearning—“I wish I knew how to stay in love with you”—we hear the deeper human desire: for constancy, for faithfulness, for love that doesn’t abandon. From a Christian perspective, that desire finds its answer only in God’s steadfast love, which endures when all else fails.

In the end, Erlich’s songs aren’t hymns, but they are honest. They shine a light on the human condition—restless, wounded, reaching. And for those with ears of faith, they open a doorway to reflection, reminding us that behind every cry for love is a deeper cry for redemption.
