The ballad showcases Cantrell’s vocal abilities with beautiful melodies mixed with a powerful message. Jonathan Gamble, who co-wrote with Cantrell on his last track “Source”, worked with Cantrell on “What He Didn’t Do.”
“These past few years, we have gone through a lot as a people. We’ve experienced a lot of loss… more than I’ve ever seen before in my life. Romans 8:28 says “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Growing up I always thought that verse meant I was going to live an easy life without any heartaches, but as I got older there were things I went through that I couldn’t seem to find the good in. If we continue to read in verse 29 it says, “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son…” To be conformed to the image of his Son. Jesus. Jesus was forsaken, betrayed and abandoned. He endured mental and physical suffering beyond what I could ever begin to imagine. If everything that we go through in our life, the good the bad and the in-between is shaping us to be more like Jesus, then I believe that is good. If you can’t seem to find the good in what you are walking through, I want to remind you that God is still good, and that He is not defined by our circumstances” – Landry Cantrell
