[Music Review] The Christmas Song – Lady Redneck
The self-declared blonde bombshell of Country music is back with another Christmas offering. This time Lady Redneck releases her version of the classic The Christmas Song. This release features our soprano vocalist accompanied with a piano to give us an almost operatic rendition of a typically baritone delivery. The discordant vocal performance revolves in and out of key while Lady Redneck explores the many different concepts of the main theme, utilizing vibrato, legato, and counterpoint to create her own melody and rhythm. This uncommonly used technique is rather daring but given Lady Redneck’s penchant for breaking the traditional rules of singing, this works out rather well for her. The Christmas Song is delivered in a downtempo, almost morose timing leaving plenty of open space in the main melody.
This openness allows Stephanie “Lady Redneck” Lee to explore and offer a performance that would not be possible had the tempo been brought up to its normal moderato pace. This vocal performance comes full
circle during the crescendo as Lady Redneck reaches deep into her register and produces a full-out attack of the final lyrics to encapsulate the performance and leave lasting memories of this track that will carry us through the holiday season. The falsetto high-pitch opera-like vocals capture the build-up and release the tension she has built up throughout the piece to leave listeners feeling content and thoroughly entertained.
The Christmas Song is yet another excellent addition to the growing catalog of holiday hits from Lady Redneck. Set to be released on December 16, this track is brimming with anticipation and will satisfy the demand for new tracks as the holiday fatigue starts to set in. The Christmas Song would make a perfect addition to any Middle-of-the-Road, Adult Contemporary, Soft Rock, and Country commercial radio playlist for the holiday onslaught of hit songs. Lady Redneck should find much success with this track as it would also be ideal for your Christmas dinner or party playlist. The production of this song is very well-executed as the vocals ring out crisp and clear with all those subtle nuances mentioned above being able to be heard with clarity. The overtones of Lady Rednecks’ voice ring out clearly through the listening space and fill that space with power and elegance. The piano, although soft at some inopportune times, maintains a constant melody in which the vocalist accompanies, while maintaining a base key to return to when she travels around the functional boundaries. Personally, I find this version of The Christmas Song fresh and exciting. A contrast to the over-saturated versions we are typically presented with. A track that will be added to my holiday playlists, it will bring heartfelt joy to your holidays as well.
