[Music] If Yu Waan Good – Maxine Reyes
Maxine was born in Kingston, Jamaica, but grew up in a small village in Manchester, since age 3 with her great-grandmother, who she endearingly named Noony. She recalls singing from the tender age of 6 along with family members.
Music has played a large role in bonding moments among family members and friends. She attended church often and joined the choir at a young age.
She was shy to sing solos, but she would sing along with others, nonetheless. Maxine moved to the city to live with her mother and stepfather until after her freshman year of high school. She then migrated to Miami, Florida, USA to live with her grandmother.
Thereâs a saying that grandmothers across Jamaica island would say that inspired this encouraging song by Maxine. They used to say: âIf yu waan good, yu nose haffi run!â This means if you want to be successful in life, you must do the work it takes to achieve your goals.
With God, through blood, sweat and tears, you can make it happen, even though it wonât be easy. People from different walks of life can relate to thus song.
âIf Yu Waan Goodâ will get you bumping your head and motivate you to chase your dreams!
