[Album] Wholehearted – We Are Messengers

Curb | Word Entertainment band We Are Messengers debuts its third full-length studio album. Listen to the brand new 12-song collection HERE. Written and recorded during the global pandemic, Wholehearted features the K-LOVE Fan Award-winning group’s current radio single, “Come What May,” as well as previously released instant grat tracks “God You Are (feat. Josh Baldwin)” and “Friend Of Sinners.”

“Like most artists, our world kinda fell apart when touring got shut down. So we did what every good songwriter should do, we catalogued every feeling imaginable and tried to make sense of a strange new world. We danced in the darkness, wrestled with doubt, reconnected with God in a really authentic way, and found the beauty in the forced simplicity of our lives,” explains We Are Messengers front man Darren Mulligan of the deeply personal LP. “We gave ourselves fully to the process of telling the truth again and not caring what the world thought of us. The album captures the heart of a follower of Jesus in one of the most wonderful and horrific times we have faced in modern history. We went all in, held nothing back. This one is Wholehearted.”

Mulligan is a featured co-writer on each of the project’s original offerings with additional contributions by Kyle Williams, Jeff Pardo, Phil Wickham, Apollo LTD’s Adam Stark and Jordan Phillips, for KING & COUNTRY multi-instrumentalist Benjamin Backus, Ryan Ellis and Ethan Hulse, among other songwriting all-stars.

The official music videos for Wholehearted were all filmed in Mulligan’s hometown, showcasing the beauty of the lead singer’s native Ireland. A deluxe edition, Wholehearted +, is also available today, boasting the standard album’s dozen tracks as well as a handful of bonus acoustic selections and the band’s recent collaborations with Cory Asbury and Vince Gill.

This week, the Dove-nominated collective wrapped a string of fall dates on TobyMac’s “Hits Deep Tour.” On Oct. 21, they’ll embark on Newsboys’ “Step Into The Light Tour.”

[Music Video] Friend Of Sinners – We Are Messengers

Curb | Word Entertainment band We Are Messengers continues to preview its upcoming third full-length studio album, Wholehearted, with the release of “Friend Of Sinners,” available today (9/17). Listen to the deeply personal track and pre-order/pre-save Wholehearted (releasing Oct. 15, 2021) HERE.

We Are Messengers’ frontman Darren Mulligan wrote his own story into “Friend Of Sinners,” alongside songwriting heavyweights Ethan Hulse and Jeff Pardo, the latter of whom also produced the track. “I always felt like an outsider at many of the churches I went to with my family as a kid. These places seemed eerie to me, so hopelessly cold and so deeply impersonal to my arrogant teenage mind that I was convinced that God, if He existed at all, would want nothing to do with someone like me. The God I heard about as a child was obsessed with me being good, and it didn’t seem remotely possible that He could ever be a friend of sinners, of which I was surely one,” shares Mulligan. “But something astonishing happened when I was 27 years old. My fiancée, Heidi, who I had been dating for eight years, had a radical, life-changing conversion to Christianity. She fell in love with Jesus, and shortly afterwards, I did too. You see, I realized something incredible about Jesus. He spent His whole time on earth with outsiders, with those on the margins, with the people society rejected, telling them that the Kingdom of God was close and that there was a place for them, somewhere they could belong. The Jesus I know and read about in the Bible was a friend of sinners, and because of that, I know He is a friend of mine.”

“Friend Of Sinners” is the third song to premiere ahead of Wholehearted’s release next month. In June, We Are Messengers dropped the album’s lead single, “Come What May,” followed by “God You Are (feat. Josh Baldwin).” Last week, the group surprised fans with a new collaborative iteration of the single: “Come What May + (feat. Cory Asbury),” as well as an acoustic version. Watch the song’s official music video, filmed in Mulligan’s beautiful native Ireland, HERE.

We Are Messengers is set to share new music from Wholehearted at arenas nationwide as part of the multi-artist lineup for TobyMac’s “Hits Deep Tour,” which kicks off Oct. 2 in Moline, Illinois. Later this fall, they’ll join Newsboys for the “Step Into The Light Tour.”

Cory Asbury)” HERE and watch the official music video below. The original version of “Come What May” serves as We Are Messengers’ current radio single and offers the first taste of new music from the K-LOVE Award-winner’s forthcoming third studio album, Wholehearted, which releases on 10/15.

Featuring We Are Messengers’ signature life-changing lyrics and arena-ready hooks, “Come What May + (feat. Cory Asbury)” declares that the character of God is unchanging regardless of our circumstances. “In the past year, we’ve all collectively been forced to concede that, despite our illusions and devises, we do not get to control the world around us,” shares front man Darren Mulligan.

Mulligan adds, “‘Come What May’ is a song that not only acknowledges this reality, but revels in the fact that we have a God that loves us and is worthy of our faith, hope, and trust no matter what circumstances we are facing. It’s a celebration of freedom of not having to fabricate a false reality to ourselves and those around us and a declaration of the goodness of God.”

The Dove-nominated band performed the original version of the track and a host of hits when they made their Red Rocks debut on Aug. 3. They shared the iconic stage with Casting Crowns as part of “Live at Red Rocks.” This fall, the band will once again hit the road on TobyMac’s “Hits Deep Tour” before joining Newsboys for the “Step Into The Light Tour.”

LYRICS

[We Are Messengers:]Yeah everybody hurts sometimes
I know that’s what they say
But right now it seems
This loneliness won’t go away
Can anybody feel this heartache
Is anyone around

Feels like we’re
Running ’round in circles
We can’t catch a breath
We can’t always enjoy the moment
When we always want what’s next
Just when I can’t take no more
It’s when I hear You say

Don’t hang your head
When you get lonely
No, I’ll never
Leave your side
And don’t go thinking
You’re the only
One that can’t get it right
Yeah, you got My love
Love, love, love
Down in your soul
Yeah, you got My love
Love, love
And I won’t let you go

I know there’s nowhere I can run
There’s nowhere I can hide
From the One who gave His life
So I could get back mine
So when you can’t take no more
Look up and hear Him say

Don’t hang your head
When you get lonely
No, I’ll never
Leave your side
And don’t go thinking
You’re the only
One that can’t get it right
Yeah, you got My love
Love, love, love
Down in your soul
Yeah, you got My love
Love, love
And I won’t let you go

[Mali Music:]When you going that door
I’m right there with you
When your hurting and sore
I’m massaging that tissue
I’m resolving that issue
I’m regrading I miss you
Got My love on level with you
Blow the trumpet
Come get you
Only something that gets too
Is the only one that gets you
I think this it
Be perplexed in the mental
We Are Messengers and Mali Music
I get lonely dude
Sing to me too

[We Are Messengers & Mali Music:]Don’t hang your head
When you get lonely
No, I’ll never
Leave your side
And don’t go thinking
You’re the only
One that can’t get it right
Yeah, you got My love
Love, love, love
Down in your soul
Yeah, you got My love
Love, love
And I won’t let you go

POWER – WE ARE MESSENGERS

Still reeling from the July 2 Songland (NBC) win, Endearing Irish Band We Are Messengers proudly delivers its new single, “Power”. The track follows “Maybe It’s Ok,” which took top honors at the 2019 K-LOVE Fan Awards as Breakout Single of the Year.

Spotlighted by Oprah Magazine (7.3) and dubbed “liberating and dazzling” by Arianna Huffington’s Thrive Global, We Are Messengers continues its trend of delivering music with meaning.

“We are so proud of ‘Power.’ As evidenced by his win on Songland, Kyle is a world-class songwriter and producer,” says We Are Messengers front man Darren Mulligan. “It hits home live and we can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

Adds Kyle, “We thought about how Jesus conquered death, and how we HAVE the power in us. When we’re in the middle of a challenging time, it’s easy to feel alone or forget that the battle has already been won. But this song is one of empowerment. We want to remind listeners that THEY have the power within themselves. It’s that easy — we need only believe.”

“Power” furthers the band’s unapologetic message of courageous grit (its award-winning hit “Maybe It’s Ok” championed finding strength through raw vulnerability), reminding listeners of their divine ability to “run out the darkness” as “we got that power.”

The new song releases on the heels of We Are Messengers’ six-song Honest EP (3.29) which yielded “Maybe It’s Ok” — the band’s fastest-growing single to date, with more than 16.2M streams.

LYRICS

Nothing can hold us back
Nothing can tear us apart
Not life, not death, not the in-between
This is just the start
Don’t let ’em keep you down (Keep you down)
Don’t let them push you out (Push you out)
We were made to live
To be fierce like lions,
love and forgive (To be fierce like lions, love and forgive)

Just keep moving on
Just keep pushing ahead
Yeah, the new has come
All the old is dead
Just keep moving on
Keep your eyes on the prize
And that word in your heart
Yeah, we’ll be alright

Power, power
We’ve got that
Power, power
We’ve got that
Power, power
We’ve got that
Power
Yeah, we’ll be alright

Yeah, we’re running out the darkness
Chasing down the dead of night
We’re bringing hope to the streets
There’s a new way, a better life
Only One can set the captive free (Set the captive free)
He’s bringing sight back to the blind (To the blind)
Show the lame how to walk
And make the dead alive

Just keep moving on
Just keep pushing ahead
Yeah, the new has come
All the old is dead
Just keep moving on
Keep your eyes on the prize
And that word in your heart
Yeah, we’ll be alright

Power, power
We’ve got that
Power, power
We’ve got that
Power, power
We’ve got that
Power
Yeah, we’ll be alright
Power, power
We’ve got that
Power, power
We’ve got that
Power, power
We’ve got that
Power
Yeah, we’ll be alright

We got that Holy Ghost power
We got our hearts set on love
We got that Holy Ghost power
We keep our eyes fixed above
We got that Holy Ghost power
We got our hearts set on love
We got that Holy Ghost power
We keep our eyes fixed above

Just keep moving on
Just keep pushing ahead
Yeah, the new has come
All the old is dead
Just keep moving on
Keep your eyes on the prize
And that word in your heart
Yeah, we’ll be alright

Power, power
We’ve got that
Power, power
We’ve got that
Power, power
We’ve got that
Power
Yeah, we’ll be alright (Oh-oh-oh)
Power, power
We’ve got that
Power, power
We’ve got that
Power, power
We’ve got that
Power
Yeah, we’ll be alright (Oh-oh-oh)

We’ve got the power, that power
We’ve got the power, that power
We’ve got the power, that power
We’ve got that- (Oh-oh-oh)

LYRICS
[Verse 1]
I wear my heart on my sleeve
Don’t wanna be fake
But I heard I should be ashamed
From the mouth of a snake
Deep down I’d rather fear than show you something real
But there is power in my weakness
They can try to keep me silent
But I’ma shout it from the mountains
No, I’m not backing down

[Chorus]
The Devil is a liar!, the Devil is a liar!
My God has set me free
Opened my eyes now I can see
The Devil is a liar!
And he’s not fooling me

[Verse 2]
I know he won’t give up easy, nah
He can try but he won’t deceive me, nah
I can see, I can right through him (Through him)
He wants me to hide, he’s the father of lies
But I got an army on my side
And we’re not backing down
