[Album] Live From Raleigh – Mission House

North-Carolina’s folk worship delta Mission House release new album ‘Live From Raleigh’ recorded in a room full of their friends. Made up of songwriters Jess Ray and Taylor Leonhardt – the only female duo in worship – Mission House introduce new songs as well as older tunes taken to new heights through the live context of this project.

The band was formed three years ago, and with the last two years in a global pandemic, it’s been a very interesting context in which to start! Jess shares, “We knew from the outset that the purpose of this band was to write “songs to sing together” which was a challenging vision to uphold in a season that required a lot of caution and caused a lot of isolation.”

This makes ‘Live From Raleigh’ very special. It’s the sound of Mission House hitting the restart button as a band; of them finally getting to call their community together again to sing and shout and worship as a family, face to face.

The new project was recorded in Taylor’s home church and features 10 of Mission House’s best songs played by a fantastic band and backed by 200-person-strong gang vocals from family and friends in attendance.

‘Live From Raleigh’ is a snapshot of the duo’s community, where these songs were crafted and sung years before Mission House had a name. “We’re thrilled to share this story with the world, inviting others into it and inspiring them to write their own version of the story,” Jess concludes. ‘Live From Raleigh’ makes a statement that though the recent years have been heavy and lonely, we were made for God and for one another. Hope and Joy will have the last word.

[Music] Behold + Never See The End – Mission House

Mission House release a new live dual single from their upcoming album. ‘Behold/Never See The End’ revisits the two songs in the context of a room full of friends, delighting in music and the presence of the Lord during a live recording in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The deluxe single carries Mission House’s soulful and organic folk, exhibiting the sensitivity and distinctive of the only female duo in the worship music sphere. ‘Behold’ was written by Mission House’s Taylor Leonhardt a few years ago inspired by the apostle John’s dream. in Revelation 21:5, “Behold, I am making all things new.” She started dreaming in turn of what this reality would look like. Poets, storytellers, artists, and songwriters have been exploring suffering for as long as we’ve known it, and when Mission House started playing the song people would approach them with stories of loss, abuse, grief, and addiction. Yet, these stories of heartbreak also spoke of healing, hope, and resurrection.

behold

Mission House’s prayer is that ‘Behold’ would inspire us to believe a little more in the resurrection, not only in the distant future but here and now. ‘Never See The End’ drives this message home through the lens of God’s eternal and enduring goodness. Written by Jess Ray, the second single was built on her mother’s contagious testimony and seeks to communicate the beauty of trusting in Jesus’s endless good Nature. With their new live deluxe single, Mission House remind their listeners that when we can’t count on anything else, we can count on God’s promise to be present through it all and to make all things new.

[Music] Whole Heart – Mission House

The only female duo in the worship sphere, Mission House present their second deluxe single including new song ‘Whole Heart’ alongside ‘Good God’, which featured on their latest album. Written by Mission House’s Taylor Leonhardt and Jess Ray with Leslie Jordan, ‘Whole Heart’ is a song about showing up fully to life with Jesus, allowing us to imagine what might happen if we didn’t hold any part of ourselves back. It speaks trust in God in the face of our cultural moment, where constant demands of perfection and pretending weigh heavy on our souls. The new song is paired with ‘Good God’, a track that Mission House released during lockdown and that they dreamt of singing with their community, declaring the unchanging goodness of God. This version was recorded in a room full of Mission House’s friends live in Raleigh as a testament to God’s faithfulness to bring us through any situation. For Mission House to weave new and old songs in such cohesive way whilst highlighting their congregational potential shows their songwriting’s steadfastness.

A 7-song live record served as Mission House’s official self-titled debut with Integrity Music in 2019, followed by their 2020 studio album, I Heard A Song I Can’t Ignore. The worship songs captured on this album were released the next year in engaging acoustic audio and video versions with guests including Josh Baldwin, Andrew Peterson, and Leslie Jordan. Now working on a live album scheduled for mid-2022, the duo continues to establish their immense songwriting talent and musicianship. The friendship and shared vision behind Mission House create a beautiful and tangible space for intimacy, where people can commune with one another and with their Creator through simple and joyful folk/rock worship music.

Ultimately, Mission House are driven by their focus on people, and making worship that truly serves others as individuals first, and the body as a whole secondarily. It’s not about hype, or flash, it’s just real, intimate, heart-felt worship that is full of depth and reverence that helps us all connect more with Him, and each other.
