[Music] If Yu Waan Good – Maxine Reyes

Maxine was born in Kingston, Jamaica, but grew up in a small village in Manchester, since age 3 with her great-grandmother, who she endearingly named Noony. She recalls singing from the tender age of 6 along with family members.

Music has played a large role in bonding moments among family members and friends. She attended church often and joined the choir at a young age.

She was shy to sing solos, but she would sing along with others, nonetheless. Maxine moved to the city to live with her mother and stepfather until after her freshman year of high school. She then migrated to Miami, Florida, USA to live with her grandmother.

There’s a saying that grandmothers across Jamaica island would say that inspired this encouraging song by Maxine. They used to say: “If yu waan good, yu nose haffi run!” This means if you want to be successful in life, you must do the work it takes to achieve your goals.

With God, through blood, sweat and tears, you can make it happen, even though it won’t be easy. People from different walks of life can relate to thus song.

“If Yu Waan Good” will get you bumping your head and motivate you to chase your dreams!

[Music] Rise Above The Storm – Maxine Reyes

Maxine Reyes is back with a new single titled “Raise Above The Storm.” The melody and the instrumentals of this encouraging song will have you bump your head while declaring the powerful lyrics over your life. The song is available everywhere now.

“Rise Above The Storm” was written while cleaning my kitchen in the middle of a rainstorm. It was during the peak of the pandemic and the election campaigns in 2020. It was in the height of a time when the nation was going through major unrest, aggression, disappointments, murders, and betrayals. Although changes were being made, citizens didn’t see them as satisfactory and some still lost hope. I was sad for us! I turned to what comforts me the most and what helps me to cope. Music and reading the Holy Bible does just that for me. I read Psalm 46:1-3 which says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth gives way, and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” We will rise above it all! I wrote the song and shared it with a producer who collaborated with me and my husband in completing it.” – Maxine
