JJ Heller shares new music with I Dream Of You: CHRISTMAS. The project is available now.
“Yesterday I listened to the whole thing from start to finish because I wanted to remind myself of what you’d be hearing today. I’ll tell you what, I was excited about this album when we first finished it many months ago, but I think I’m even more excited about it now. It’s just stunning.
When I made Unto Us (my first Christmas album) back in 2016, it was like a spark was lit inside me. I absolutely fell in love with singing Christmas music. It felt comfortable, familiar, challenging and inspiring all at the same time. I loved the orchestration, the nostalgia and the children’s choir. It’s what led me down the path of making all of the orchestral I Dream of You records.
It was an absolute joy to revisit Christmas again with this new collection of songs. It was no small feat, that’s for sure. @benshive crushed it again with his absolutely gorgeous arranging and production and my brilliant husband Dave was always there to point us in the right direction.
As usual, all the players were incredible. From brass and woodwinds, to harp and percussion, keys and strings, the @trinityboyschoir with their angelic voices, and @rob_burrell_mixermania mixing like an absolute master, there are just so many insanely talented people lending us their gifts… simply to create this one big timeless gift for you. 🎁
I hope you can hear the love, joy and reverence in these beautiful tracks. I hope they become the backdrop to countless Christmas memories to come. I sure loved singing these songs and I can’t wait for you to sing along with me.” -Heller
JJ Heller releases I Dream Of You: Joy. She shares about the release:
Please welcome the newest addition to my I Dream of You series! Think of it as a Christmas album you can listen to all year long.
I Dream of You: JOY is a collection of 16 of the most hopeful and joy-filled songs I could think of.
Each track is meant to be played during the daytime whenever you need a little dose of sunshine. They’re for impromptu dance parties, getting ready for school, road trips, baking goodies and maybe just smiling in general.
JJ Heller releases new music with “Calvin And Hobbes.” The track was written by Heller, David Heller, and Ben Shive. Heller shares on social media:
Children have such vivid imaginations. They create and pretend and go on countless adventures without even leaving their neighborhood. But inevitably, they grow up and suddenly there’s not enough time to play.
When I read Calvin and Hobbes, I remember what it felt like to be a child. Slowly those feeling and memories come back to me, though sometimes I can’t tell what was a memory and what was a dream. That’s the magic of childhood.
I hope we captured that idea in this song. I hope you listen and remember what it felt like to be a kid, sailing across oceans in cardboard box boats. The thing is, whether those adventures were real or pretend, it doesn’t matter. You felt them in your heart
JJ Heller releases new music with “Good Idea.” The track was written by Heller, David Heller, and Leslie Jordan.
Heller shares on social media:
I have an unofficial theory that every parent is especially suited to thrive during a certain stage of their child’s development. While each stage has its pros and cons, I have to be honest and say that pregnancy, newborn stage and toddlerhood were especially difficult for me.
It was always difficult to get down on the floor and play with my kids (it was a true act of love to pretend to be a puppy trainer), but have a meaningful conversation with me? ALL DAY LONG. I am absolutely loving having both of my kids officially in double digits.
As any parent of teens and tweens will tell you, it’s not all heart-to-hearts and “thank you for everything, Mom.” The older my kids get, the more complex their problems become. I can’t just fix it anymore. Mostly I get to listen and offer little bits of advice and wisdom. They’re learning how to navigate their own lives, including friendships (which can be treacherous territory).
When my girls are hurting because their friends aren’t treating them well, it hurts my heart. Sometimes I wish I could tag along at school with them and stick up for them when they’re getting mistreated or taken for granted. Instead, I have to trust that my words and fierce mama-love will be with them instead.
I want them to know, as my friend @taylorleon says, “Love Himself dreamed (them) up.” I want to shout from the rooftops that they have God-imparted, inherent dignity and they deserve to be treated with respect and kindness. Adolescence is intense (to say the least), so I want these lyrics to be a reminder that God created each of us with love in every tiny detail. No mistakes.
This is the message I will tell my children over and over.
If you’re doubtin, second-guessin I have always been a true believer There was never any question You have always been a good idea
JJ Heller releases new music with “Wild and Precious Life.” The track was written by Heller, David Heller, and Andy Gullahorn. Heller shares on social media,
Dave and I wrote it with our good friend @andygullahorn with the hopes it would be a good fit for a father/daughter or mother/son dance at a wedding.
We started thinking about what that moment would be like, watching our child ready to start the next chapter, moving further into adulthood. I know it will be a swirl of emotions: pride, sadness, joy, love.
I’ve always loved the Mary Oliver poem: “Tell me, what do you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” It struck me that these sentiments are perfect for a wedding, as families stand on the edge of what was and what is yet to come.
Marriage is a leap of faith… and so is letting your child grow up. But all we can do is take one step at a time and do our best to keep dancing through this one wild and precious life.

JJ Heller released new music with “Do-Re-Mi” from The Sound of Music. Heller shares on social media,
I love The Sound of Music so much.
Have you ever thought about how clever Do Re Mi is? It’s literally a song written about music. And on top of that cleverness, it also marks a lovely part in the film when Maria teaches the children what it means to laugh and play.
In The Sound of Music, Do Re Mi spans the length of several scenes and lasts about five and-a-half minutes, so our challenge was trying to figure out how to condense it so we didn’t have a forever-long version. The other challenge was learning how to sing it as myself instead of doing my Julie Andrews impression 🤣, but I think I did it!
In the end, I think we came up with something that honors the original but is distinctly I Dream of You. I also LOVE how this one showcases the the British boys choir! ❤️

JJ Heller releases new music with “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
Heller shares on social media,
Ok, so we’ve all heard this one a thousand times, but that’s because IT’S SO GOOD! @mariahcarey’s voice is basically the opposite of mine, so it was a fun challenge trying to figure how to do a quiet and comforting version that was more about the words and less about vocal gymnastics (‘cause I sure can’t do that fancy stuff!).
To be honest, I really wasn’t sure if we could pull it off, but now that it’s done, it feels like there’s magical Christmas fairy dust all over this one and I’m so happy you get to hear it today. All I Want for Christmas is You is actually a very sweet, tender song when you slow it down and listen to the lyrics. It makes me think of all the people I love. They’re worth more than any gift wrapped up under the tree. When I think of them my eyes fill up of tears of love and gratitude.

JJ Heller releases new music with “Joy To The World.” Heller shares on social media,
A few years ago I made a Spotify playlist called Peaceful Christmas (go have a listen if you haven’t already!). Near the top of the list was Joy to the World by Sufjan. It’s a simple, approachable arrangement of a very classic Christmas hymn. I love his version so much that I wanted to sing it myself. ☺️
My version is almost identical except for the addition of a British boys choir (yes, they’re legit from England), and of course, my voice instead of Sufjan’s. There’s just something about it that makes me feel like I’m listening to a cozy little Christmas concert at church. I can picture all the kids filing in on stage and doing their best not to fidget.
