Jim Sonefeld Releases New Book With EP To Follow

A book that encapsulates a band still beloved by legions of fans, Swimming with the Blowfish is much more—an unpretentious, emotional story of one man’s spiritual path to a more fruitful life. The ultimate front-row seat to the rise, fall, and rebirth of a band that was—for a time—the biggest in the world, Hootie & the Blowfish, and Jim Sonefeld’s shattering and redeeming spiritual path from addiction to recovery and a more fruitful life.

“We loved, fought, cried, laughed a lot, and did whatever it took to play the music that we knew was very distinctly ours. . . . Jim ‘Soni’ Sonefeld has lived a life that is rife with fun and pain, light and darkness, but always with an amazing amount of love. The way he sees the world is one of a kind and his story is one for the ages.” — from the foreword by Darius Rucker

Jim Sonefeld Set To Release ‘Remember Tomorrow’ EP July 22

As one of the principal songwriters for one of America’s more accomplished and top- selling groups, Hootie and the Blowfish, Jim (Soni) Sonefeld (drummer and writer of the hits) has had a lot of ups and downs, struggles and bad ass highs. As he toured the world, fell into drugs, alcohol, sex and more, he hit the ROCK Bottom so many in this lifestyle do. After the ego and wild days got a shock treatment, he has emerged as a man focused on his faith, his family and a message of hope and redemption.

From his beginnings in the Chicago area as a storied, yet troubled soccer phenom to his days as a player for University of South Carolina to an unexpected ask to drum for the college “band” – he never really slowed down and applied his true talents. But once he did, he excelled. In sport and in his music/songwriting and the rest is history, as they say.

His recovery found him a new man with new meaning, a shift in his songwriting that has led to a catalogue of CCM-eques music. As he takes time to speak to groups on his path to recovery, he sprinkles in some music, and it is a strong and powerful place to be. Soni will precede the release of EP Remember Tomorrow with the release of his first book (memoir) ‘Swimming with the Blowfish: Hootie, Healing, and One Hell of a Ride’ on June 28, 2022.

The first single, “Bow To Him,” was released last month (Mar 25). The full tracklisting is below.

  1. Bow To Him
  2. Unafraid
  3. I See Heaven on Earth
  4. Good to Get Back
