Gospel’s Smoothest Ambassador Jason Nelson Scores No. 1 Songs on Billboard and Mediabase Charts

Gospel Music’s smoothest ambassador and pastor of Maryland’s The Tab church, Jason Nelson, has landed the No. 1 gospel song in the nation – for the fourth time. The track, “Residue,” is No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart for the week ending November 6tth with 1,116 airplay detections.

The song has also reached No. 1 on Mediabase’s Gospel Songs chart.  “I’m so grateful to have reached #1 again,” Nelson says. “`Residue’ really speaks to what the world needs: a fresh start. I’m so thankful for my team at Tyscot Records and FairTrade Services. Congrats goes to them as well. Jerome and Danni Baylor are amazing songwriting partners, and I wouldn’t be in  this place without them, so to God be the glory!”

“Residue” (Jaelyn Song Music /Tyscot / FairTrade) is an up-tempo departure from Nelson’s past No. 1 ballad hits such as “Forever” and “Great I Am” that have earned him over 100 million digital streams over the last decade.  Although, the message is spiritual; the production is Adult Contemporary R&B thanks to the Baylors who have collaborated with the likes of urban hitmakers such as Fantasia. The warm track shows off Nelson’s polished bass playing and his soulfully measured tenor that is on par with that of Charlie Wilson or Luther Vandross.

“Residue was inspired by the idea that being in proximity to God has a cleansing effect on a person,” Nelson explains. “The song gives insight to how God cleans us up when we come to Him. He never has the expectation that we are perfect to engage with Him. He takes us as we are and washes away the residue of the past as we walk with him.”

“Residue” is the first radio single from Nelson’s first album in three years and first studio project ever – “Close” (Jaelyn Song / Tyscot / FairTrade) – which was digitally released this past August. The physical CD configuration will hit brick and mortar stores and online shippers on November 5th. The uplifting twelve song set features guest appearances from R&B star Chrisette Michele, bassist John Patitucci, and worship leader, Osby Berry.

Jason Nelson’s Rhythmic New Album “Close” Debuts in Top 5 on Music Connect Chart

Gospel crooner, Jason Nelson‘s first album in three years, Close (Jaelyn Song Music /Tyscot / FairTrade), has debuted at No. 5 on the Music Connect Current Gospel Albums sales chart for the week ending August 20th.  The twelve-track set features a mix of soulful, up-tempo tracks, as well as the solid worship ballads for which he’s known. The album’s first radio single, “Residue,” is currently No. 8 with a bullet on the Billboard Gospel Airplay chart.

Close is Nelson’s most adventurous music collection yet. It boasts up-tempo R&B-styled tracks such as “Close” and “Show Me the Meaning.” Then, there are also poignant worship ballads like “Holy,” “What A Name,” and “Breathe.” Osby Berry, known for his collaborations with Cross Worship, shows up for the anthem-styled praise and worship track, “You Are.”

Grammy® winning R&B star, Chrisette Michelle’s velvet-like vocals blend seamlessly with Nelson’s golden tone on the wispy track, “Absent Minded.” It could easily fit into a playlist of R&B ballads such as “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar and H.E.R. or “Say So” by PJ Morton and Jojo. As a bonus, the album closes with a stripped-down acoustic rendition of the song.

Another gem on the album is a cameo by one of Nelson’s musical heroes, Grammy® winning bassist , John Patitucci. He and Nelson trade bass notes on the ethereal, “Absent Minded Outro.”

Over the years, Nelson (who is the  pastor at  The Tab in Windsor Mills, MD) has enjoyed a string of gospel radio hits such as “Shifting the Atmosphere,” “Nothing Without You,” “I Am” and “Forever” that have earned him over 100 million digital streams.

Jason Nelson Preps Release of Sixth Album “Close” on 6th August

Jason Nelson, best-known for his No. 1 gospel ballads “Forever” and “I Am,” will emerge from a three-year recording hiatus on 8/6 with the release of his sixth album, Close (Jaelyn Song Music/ Tyscot / FairTrade).  “First, it’s a studio record [his past sets have been live sessions]. Secondly, I delve into music that helped to nurture my sound as a singer. It pays homage to Dawkins & DawkinsFred HammondCommissioned. The first album I ever purchased was by Jaco Pastorious (a legendary bassist known for his work with jazz fusion band, Weather Report). All of them played a major role in my musical journey.”

With hints of Jazz, R&B, and Pop flavors, Nelson is flexing new musical muscles on Close. Joining him for this sonic workout are luminaries such as R&B singer, Chrisette Michele; jazz bassist, John Patitucci; and Cross Worshipleader, Osby Berry. Although, the set breaks new musical ground for Nelson; it’s still an album that solidly delivers the heartfelt, Jesus-centered songs of faith that Nelson’s core fans have come to love.   The first radio single, “Residue,” has already racked a million streams and charted in the Top 20 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart.

The twelve-track set is also the first fruit of Nelson’s Jaelyn Song imprint’s new marketing and distribution partnership with Tyscot Records and FairTrade Services. “I love the freedom of being able to curate my career and make decisions that I feel are the best for me,” Nelson says after a nearly decade-long recording relationship with RCA Inspirational.

A Baltimore, Maryland native, Nelson has been active on the national stage since 2005. Over the years, he’s enjoyed a string of gospel radio hits such as “Shifting the Atmosphere,” “Nothing Without You,” “I Am” and “Forever” that have earned him over 100 million digital streams. He is also Pastor of The Tab (Formerly The Tabernacle at Greater Bethlehem Temple) in Windsor Mills, MD. He and his wife, Tonya, have two children, Jaelyn Paris and Jason Christopher.

JASON NELSON Offers First Single in 3 Years, New Album in the Works

Jason Nelson, best-known for his No. 1 gospel ballads “Shifting the Atmosphere” and “Forever,” is showcasing another dimension to his immense talent on the smooth, mid-tempo track, “Residue” (Tyscot / FairTrade). Dueling guitars – including Nelson on Bass – open this R&B-flavored groove about a bright future with no residue of a dark past.

“The blind mark on my soul has been erased,” Nelson testifies. The warm track shows the Baltimore, MD native’s seemingly effortless and soulfully measured tenor that is on par with that of Charlie Wilson or Luther Vandross.

“Residue was inspired by the idea that being in proximity to GOD has a cleansing effect on a person,” Nelson explains. “The song gives insight to how GOD cleans us up when we come to HIM. HE never has the expectation that we are perfect to engage with HIM. He takes us as we are and washes away the residue of the past as we walk with HIM.” Listening Link: https://smarturl.it/residue

“Residue” is Nelson’s first release in three years and he’s planning to release a full album later in the year. “The new album will definitely be a departure from what I’m known for,” Nelson confides. “First, it’s a studio record [He usually does live albums]. Secondly, the record will dig into who I am artistically and musically. We will delve into music that helped to nurture my sound as a singer. It pays homage to Dawkins and Dawkins, Commissioned, and Fred Hammond. All of them played a major role in my musical journey.”

The Stellar Award-winning vocalist, songwriter and producer also debuts a new video for “In The Room” on his VEVO channel, delivering an intimate live performance. Filmed at the church where he pastors, The Tabernacle at Greater Bethlehem Temple in Maryland, the video creates a warm worship atmosphere led by Nelson’s dynamic voice

Providing a soothing declaration of faith in God’s ever-present love and care over our well-being, being there for whatever needs, we have, “In The Room” was written by Jason Nelson, multi-GRAMMY winner Aaron Lindsey, and Dominique Brice. Recorded live at his album recording for his chart-topping fifth project The Answer, “In The Room” follows on the heels of his #1 Gospel radio hit “Forever.”

LYRICS

[Verse 1]
I can hear the Lord saying ‘I’m awake
And I’ve heard your prayer
No matter how you feel
Know that I am still in control
Know that I am here
And whatever you need
It’s in the room

I can hear the Lord saying ‘I’m awake
And I’ve heard your prayer
No matter how you feel
Know that I am still in control
Know that I am here
And whatever you need
It’s in the room

[Chorus]
Whatever you need
Whatever you need
Whatever you need
It’s in the room
Whatever you need
Whatever you need
Whatever you need
It’s in this room

Sing whatever you need
Whatever you need
Whatever you need
It’s in the room

Hear me when I say, whatever you need
Whatever you need
Whatever you need
It’s in the room

Tell somebody, say whatever you need
Lord’s got the remedy
Whatever you need
It’s in the room

[Bridge/Outro]
Tell them
Say healing is here
Break through is here
Joy is here
And it’s in the room
Hear me when I tell you
Healing is here
Your break through is here
Joy is here
And it’s in the room
If you sing
Healing is here
Deliverance, your break through is here
And you’re gonna smile again, your joy is here
And it’s in the room
One more time, tell em, say
Healing is here
Break through is here
And your joy is here
And it’s in the room
Say whatever you need
Whatever you need, yeah
Whatever you need
It’s in the room
Whatever you need, whatever you need
Said whatever
Reach out and get it, it’s in the room
Whatever you need
It’s in the room, say yeah
Tell them, say
Whatever you need
You don’t have to wait, it’s here right now
Whatever you need
It’s in the room, say it
Tell somebody, whatever you need
Healing, break through, change, deliverance
Yes it is, yes it is, yes it is
It’s in the room

Whatever you need
It’s in the room
And no matter how you feel
Know that I am still in control

Know that I am king
And whatever you need
It’s in the room
