Skillet Launches New Chapter With “Unpopular”

Earlier this week, BILLBOARD broke the news that SKILLET will be releasing their first independent record, REVOLUTION on November 1, 2024.  The project’s first single, “Unpopular,” premiered yesterday on BILLBOARD and SIRIUS XM’s OCTANE channel, and along with a music videois available across all DSPs today with a pre-order for the full album, including on CD and Vinyl.

The song was teased in SKILLET’s brand new app, also launching today, which will give fans early access to tickets, exclusive content, message boards and more.  Exuding confidence, “Unpopular” hinges on a hard-hitting guitar groove with a swaggering rhythm and will impact Active Rock Radio August 20th.

“ ‘Unpopular‘ is lighthearted, but there’s a clear message,” says lead singer John Cooper. “So many people don’t have a place to belong. You used to know your neighbors. Our communities are online now, which contributes to the loneliness. You have powerful people telling you what reality is, what you should eat, what you should drive, and how you should live. They deem us ‘unpopular’. In reality, we agree more than we disagree as a society. The majority of people just want to be free and they don’t really care whether or not you agree with them about everything.”

REVOLUTION is expected to only extend Skillet’s formidable legacy. As of 2024, the band have received two GRAMMY® Award nominations, picked up a Billboard Music Award, and landed three albums in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200. Selling over 22 million units worldwide with over 24 billion global streams to date, SKILLET have notched multi-platinum, platinum, or gold RIAA certifications for a total of 12 singles and four full-length albums.

Their latest RIAA Gold certifications just hit this summer with the tracks “Legendary” and “Stars.”  Not to mention, they have regularly attracted 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone, boasting “one of the most-streamed rock songs of all-time” with the 5x-platinum “Monster.”

After an incredible 20 years on Atlantic Records, SKILLET have built this new vision entirely by hand, intentionally opting to go independent at the end of their last contract and developing a solid indie team. Bolstered and galvanized by the support of a fervent global base, they took advantage of this newfound freedom, writing and recording the album at their own pace on the road and at home as well as in studios across Milwaukee, Canada, and Nashville.

The group also tapped the talents of longtime collaborators and producers Brian Howes and Seth Mosely, as well as band member Korey Cooper with YOUTHYEAR/Carlo Colasacco bringing these ten tracks to life naturally.

We made records on the same label for 20 years, and it was a great experience,” says Cooper. “Since this was the first independent record, it put some pep in my step, so to speakWe did exactly what we wanted to do. If I was on the road and felt inspired to write, I just did. In the past, we’d make a bunch of ideas and whittle everything down for the album. This time, we only wrote and recorded ten tracks, but it was all we neededMusically, there are a lot of flavors on the record. It’s got the arena songs, but it also has some tunes that are more nostalgic and throwback Skillet.”

Thematically, there’s so much nihilism in our culture. Depression and teen suicide are at epidemic levels. We’re revolting against a culture that creates nihilism, nothingness, and materialism. The album is poignant, but it’s also very confident and inclusive as well,” he continues.

“It’s a record saying, ‘We have to be willing to stand up for what we believe in—even if it might be unpopular in some circles, but hey, maybe we could have a revolution of love, you know, a revolution of understanding, of tolerance towards people that we don’t agree with and come back to some human dignity and respecting peoples rights and where they’re coming from.

And so, it’s kind of speaking to the division and the polarization that is happening, which I think is a really good message and what the whole ‘revolution’ thing is all about. We allude to it on the record cover where there’s a Skillet flag, and in the corner it lists I Corinthians, 13:13, a verse that says, “Hold onto these things: faith, hope, love. But the greatest is love.”

Ready to play new music for their fans, SKILLET recently announced that they will hit the road this fall with another one of the best-selling rock bands of the 21st century, SEETHER, followed by their first-ever tour of the Middle East in November where the band will be playing in Turkey, Kazakhstan, United Arab Emirates, and more.  From there SKILLET will support Black Stone Cherry on a handful of dates across the UK. Tickets for all shows are now available at Skillet.com.

[Download] Yahweh – Raymond Chinedu

After a brief hiatus, renowned Music minister, Raymond Chinedu marks his return to the music scene with the release of his latest single titled “Yahweh”.

The dialogue between God and Moses in EXODUS 3 as it concerns the deliverance of a people in captivity for so many years from the hands of the Egyptians, is one event that would change the way and manner we see and relate with God after many years down the line.

Moses said to God “who will I tell them sent me”? And the Lord retorted “Tell them I AM WHO I AM sent you. Tell them the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and I shall be known by this name from generation to generation”.

It is these resonating verses that gave birth to the song YAHWEH .

The song YAHWEH by RAYMOND CHINEDU is a revelation of God’s abilities and who He is, penned down for everyone to listen and experience God for themselves.

Rhett Walker To Release ‘Days That We Dreamed Of’ August 9

“This album is the culmination of life lived and lessons learned. A look back at all the good times and bad, the mountaintops and valleys and all the dreams and aspirations that led me and my family to the days that we dreamed of” ……. Rhett Walker.

His latest album by Rhett Walker, a celebrated Christian rock and country singer, offers a mix of heartfelt lyrics, soulful melodies, and powerful messages of faith and perseverance. Walker’s distinct voice and engaging storytelling shine through tracks that explore themes of hope, love, and life’s journey. With its blend of upbeat anthems and reflective ballads, DAYS THAT WE DREAMED OF continues to showcase Walker’s talent for creating music that resonates deeply with his audience.

unnamed

The South Georgia native leans into his country/Americana cadence on Days That We Dreamed Of.  His vocal tilt brings his love of America’s favorite genre with lyrics that express his love of Jesus in a bold-faced lyric. Country + CCM is building as evidenced by his peers Zach Williams and Anne Wilson.  Please listen with this in mind.  The outdoorsman who frequents the Duck Dynasty podcasts and is comfortable in a tree stand as well as the pulpit is excited about this release.

As you may or may not know, Rhett has GRAMMY nods, GMA DOVE Award wins and is a father of four and married to his wife that he married as a teen.  Fast forward a few decades and they are living the dream that no one predicted would happen. It resonates through the release.

Track-by-track breakdown of all songs by Rhett Walker:

Somebody Say Amen- “‘Somebody Say Amen’ is about pointing to the goodness of who God is, no matter what you’re facing. Mountain top or valley low, there’s always a reason to say Amen. Our joy is not determined by our circumstances because our joy comes from the Lord. So, to my circumstances, good or bad, I say Amen.”

Young Love- “‘Young Love’ is an anthem for all those who are crazy in love living life to the fullest with their ride or die. For the ones who know when time does what time does and life slows down, you’ll still be falling head over heels for each other.”

‘87 Chevy – “The road of life ain’t always smooth and easy but you learn a lot about who you are looking through that windshield. You also can’t forget to stop and look at that rear view and remember all the life you’ve lived, the places you’ve been and the love that was shared.”

Where I Could’ve Been- “This is my story in song form. The selfish life I lived that broke me. But the peace of knowing the good Lord could’ve left me in the trenches but He pulled me up, dusted me off and gave me a new life.”

Man On the Middle Cross – “This song is such a reminder that grace and mercy have nothing to do with us. There’s nothing we could do to earn it and nothing we could do to deserve it. It is only and has always only been about Jesus, who He is, what He did and the grace that He continues to pour out. Which is why I thank God for the man on the middle cross.”

Days That We Dreamed Of – “I remember 17 years old, baby on the way, scared half to death at what life was gonna throw my wife (April) and I’s way.  Knowing God had it under control, but unsure at what that looked like. We would sit on that back porch and just dream of one day.  20 years later, my family has realized it’s not about the “things” it’s about time spent together.  Moments that turn into memories.  It’s not a future moment, every day can be the days that you dreamed of.”

Look What God Can Do –  “Another reflective song. I was looking back over the years since I first got signed. Singing songs like When Mercy Found Me and what I had seen in life up to that point. Sitting in that writer’s room talking about all the things God was still doing. How He still uses the prodigal.”

Lost and Found- “This song is something that just poured out. I was just sitting in my room and playing guitar and as I started singing, the words just came out. I think people sometimes have a hard time dealing with their faith when things get dark. Sometimes we feel broken and lost, even as believers and that’s ok. Jesus is ok with the questioning of life. This song is a reminder to me that we can bring anything to Him.”

Live It- “I have 4 kiddos. Age 19 down to 6. This is a song that I dedicate to them. All the little things I have learned along the way that I thought I could pass onto them.”

Gave It All- “This is a worship song to me. Just a song of thankfulness for what the good Lord has done.”
