The fifth single from the multi-artist A New Heaven And A New Earth project, “Our Common Home,” releases today (Oct. 6) at digital and streaming outlets globally from The Fuel Music. The single features GRAMMY-nominated, Dove Award-winning Building 429 lead vocalist Jason Roy, renowned recording artist, producer and college professor Don Chaffer (Waterdeep) and iconic singer/songwriter Phil Joel (Newsboys). The full-length A New Heaven And A New Earth project is slated to premiere May 2024.
Written by Chaffer, Joel and Centricity Music’s singer/songwriter Jason Gray, “Our Common Home” was inspired by Pope Francis’ 2015 Encyclical, Laudato si’, On Care for Our Common Home. The song features the refrain:
Lord, help us hear the cry of the earth (Sleeper awake) Hear the cry of the poor (Sleeper awake) From the dark of the deep to the sky-blue dome Let us rise with a heart to care for our common home (Sleeper Awake)
“The intention of the song is to dig into the things that underwrite our lack of concern for not just who we are, but where we are,” shares Chaffer. “There is something about the practice of praying and confessing together that feels like a healing process. What we need is a little more introspection, thoughtfulness and care in the way we posture ourselves toward one other and our home.”
“It’s a special song with a very relatable lyric that, as Don mentioned, is really a prayer,” adds Joel. “I think we can all easily pray this song together because this is our common home, and we want to take care of this place.”
“My faith and the planet and Creation care are all linked,” continues Joel. “I’m trying to be a Jesus follower, and trying to be aware of the needs of the widows, poor, orphans and the least of the least.”
“It’s amazing how often poor people suffer when the planet is treated badly, because, of course, the planet is where we get our sustenance,” adds Chaffer. “The more we discover about the connection between the health of the poor with the health of our earthly home, the more we’re inspired to pray, ‘Lord, we need to do better. Help us to do better.’”
Producing “Our Common Home” and singing and playing various instruments on the track, Roy says of his collaboration on the single with Chaffer, Joel and Gray: “It was an honor to work on this song with these musical legends, these friends of mine.”
“Our Common Home” also features Joel on bass/vocals, Chaffer on acoustic guitar/vocals, Roy’s son Avery on drums, Lori Chaffer and Joel’s daughter Phynley on backing vocals, Gotee Records’ worship artist and songwriter Jon Reddick on keys and Jesse Garcia on guitar. The resulting, multi-generational single has an organic, Americana feel along with a pop sensibility.
In addition to “Our Common Home,” A New Heaven And A New Earth tracks already released include Roy’s “It’s All Yours;” Joel’s “Arms Around The World;” recording artist, actress and producer MŌRIAH’s “You Mean The World;” and two-time Dove Award-winning, three-time No.1 Billboard-charting, Stellar Award-nominated Aaron Cole’s “Together.” One more song will be revealed this year, followed by additional tracks in 2024. Each of these well-known Christian artists felt led to participate, responding to the call to write and record a song on taking care of Creation. The songs collectively cover rock, pop, hip hop, R&B, indie, folk/ Americana and more musical genres.
Gotee Records announces the signing of Nashville-based singer-songwriter, Charly Beathard.
As a worship leader, Beathard has honed her authentic voice and depth-filled songwriting to become an artist of distinct sincerity. When Gotee staff attended a morning session at Franklin Prayer House in Franklin, TN to see Beathard lead worship, the moment quickly turned personal, bridging the gap between industry expectations and meaningful worship.
“Joey Elwood, the President of our label, asked me to stop in and watch Charly lead worship at a small room in downtown Franklin early one morning,” says Jess Loper, A&R at Gotee Records. “I snuck in the back of that room and was immediately floored by the sincerity and emotion in her voice. Her songwriting has grown so much. She is crafting veritable lyrics that universally resonate. We are so grateful for the chance to help share her music and what she is creating with the world.”
Beathard’s innate, thoughtful desire to point others to God spills across her songs, her gritty, honest vocals the perfect pairing to her storyteller lyrics. An artist’s artist, Beathard’s skills as a songwriter stand as a testimony to her deep longing for others to know and believe in God’s promises.
“I love watching how people respond to Charly,” says Joey Elwood, President of Gotee Records. “She is very unassuming, but she has this authenticity and sincerity to her that kind of just draws you in. And her music reflects those qualities, so it’s like a slow burn on you when you begin to engage with her personally and musically.
I have a feeling the audience that ends up gathering around her and her music will be evangelists and tell others about Charly because you just sort of believe ‘her’ in the most profound way. I know all of us at Gotee consider ourselves very fortunate to go on this ride with Charly and we already feel we’re moving in a direction that we’re proud to get to work with her and her music.”
Beathard admits there was a time when she couldn’t imagine music as her future, which seems odd considering she’s practically country music royalty. Her father, Casey Beathard, is a hit country songwriter who has written songs for Trace Adkins, Eric Church, Billy Currington, Tracy Lawrence, Billy Ray Cyrus and Kenny Chesney, among others.
He’s one of the 2023 inductees into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame along with Keith Urban, Kix Brooks, David Lee Murphy and Rafe Van Hoy. Her brother Tucker is an up-and-coming artist on Warner Music Nashville. (Football is the Beathard family’s other passion. Her grandfather is NFL Hall of Famer Bobby Beathard and her brother C.J. is a quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Her brother Clay was a quarterback at Long Island University.)
Her first single, “Hallelujah Anyway,” released today across all platforms, is a moving pop ballad that channels an unspeakable tragedy into a triumphant anthem about the faithfulness of God. Beathard reveals timeless truths she’s learned after a season of immense pain. Penned with Tyrus Morgan and Molly Reed-Grayson, the poignant song explores Beathard’s feelings in the wake of her brother Clay’s murder. Home for Christmas break, the college quarterback was stabbed outside a Nashville venue after defending a girl who was being harassed.
“It was definitely written from a deep place that had a lot to do with the things that I’d gone through with my brother Clay going to heaven,” Beathard says of “Hallelujah Anyway.” Even though the song is very personal to her; she sees the message as universal. “We’re all constantly going to be facing trials and hard things on this earth. I love that song because when times are hard and we don’t know what to say, say hallelujah anyway.”
Working with producers Jonathan Smith and Micah Kuiper, Beathard’s forthcoming debut album is alive with joy and the promise of hope in Jesus. It’s an album fueled by a passion so anointed it’s hard to deny. With one listen to the songs of Charly Beathard, that heartfelt passion is palpable.
Scotty Inman and Daywind Music Publishing are pleased to announce the signing of an exclusive songwriting agreement. This announcement comes on the heels of Scotty’s recent signing to Daywind Records as a recording artist.
The esteemed songwriter is honored to join the ranks of the respected songwriters who call Daywind home. Inman has been awarded by BMI four times for songs recorded by Triumphant Quartet, as well as LeFevre Quartet, and has enjoyed cuts from numerous other artists such as Legacy Five, Joseph Habedank, The Kingsmen, The Taylors, The Erwins, and many others.
Songs from his pen, such as “Going There” and “Sun’s Gonna Come Up” have topped the Singing News radio charts eight times, and Scotty’s current single “Anywhere Jesus Is” was just announced as the #1 song on the first Singing News Faith Country Top 40 chart. Most recently, Scotty Inman’s focus has been writing new material for his upcoming release on Daywind Records.
Rick Shelton shares, “Scotty Inman expresses his ideas in lyrics that are truly original and in music that is identifiable and fresh. As impressed as I am with his songwriting, singing and public presentation, I am inspired by his character. Daywind was Scotty’s first publisher for nearly a decade, and this feels like a homecoming! I can’t wait to start promoting the hits that he will create.”
“I’m thrilled to be back where my writing journey began!” continues Scotty Inman. “Almost two decades ago, Rick Shelton and Daywind Publishing took a chance on a young aspiring songwriter, and I’ll never forget that. About ten years ago, I decided to take a step away, and at that time Rick said that I always had a home at Daywind when I was ready to come back.
That time has come, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. So, for all the artists who are looking to cut a project soon, please remember to reach out to Rick and ask for my entire catalog!”
Daywind Music Publishing is home to an award-winning roster of songwriters including Lee Black, Jody Braselton, Jim Brady, Melissa Brady, Clint Brown, Riley Harrison Clark, Jason Cox, Natalie Cromwell, Janice Crow, Seth Elbe, Marty Funderburk, Joseph Habedank, Mike Harland, Wayne Haun, Matthew Lawson, Tim Lovelace, Devin McGlamery, Rob Mills, Levi Mills, Jacob Mills, Karen Peck Gooch, John Darin Rowsey, Belinda Smith, Jonathan C.
